I have never tried them- but how about the EVH pickups?

They are alnico 2 pups... and i heard only good things about them..
The official name is the '78 ;)

The 78 is like a hot PAF. Lots of folks like them. I've got one on the way for my PRS.

If someone is willing to pay the Custom Shop price and wants a killer LP pup I'd also recommend the Brobucker. Great GREAT pup.

I'm going to replace the stock pickups in my Epiphone LP Goldtop and while I was set on the Dimarzio VPAFs I'm now tempted by the Seth Lover SH-55 so I'm not sure what to get... what do you guys think of these options?:

Seymour Duncan Seth Lover
Seymour Duncan '59
Seymour Duncan Antiquity Humbuckers

All superb pickups.

Add the Pearly Gates to the list though!

If you like the look of nickel covers, go for the Seth Lovers.

The 59's will sound like the pickups in Clapton's guitar on the Bluesbreakers album and on Disrali Gears.

The Seths or PG's or Ants will sound more like the pickups in Clapton's LP on Fresh Cream.

Those guitars were all less than 10 years old at the time the albums were recorded.

I've heard about those '78 Humbuckers...what do they typically measure for DC resistance?

Around 9K is what MJ told me.

Depending on the wood of the Epi...I think most of them tend to sound darker than normal....I'd go with the Seth's. They are crystal clear and PAF all the way!

Couldn't agree with you more. People tend to forget that when they want the Beano tone or something else from late '60's. Perfect example is Duane Allman's tone through his Cherry Burst. That guitar was only 12 years old when they did the Fillmore East......no aging on that pickup at all, IMO.

Are the Seths really brighter than the '59s? From the clips on the SD website, it sounds like the Seths are a little darker - or a least having more low mid frequencies.
