paint job

Re: paint job

I dont know how to use cans and i cant imagine doing a good professional job with them but i know a lot of people seem to. I would suggest finding a guide online maybe projectguitar.com and go from there. Otherwise if you have a mate who does automotive spraying you could ask him.

Re: paint job

More important is to avoid getting any shine. I've used krylon and had good results. Get some and a can of flat clear and see how it goes. Just sand the clear coats and don't buff.

Re: paint job

If you want a good flat with a can, I'm using some of the model paints that come in flat colors and are actually lacquer for final coat. They aren't cheap; so, I'm using a duplicator lacquer primer as the undercoat. You might give that a try.

Re: paint job

thanks...the guitar in question is a inexpensive LTD EC-256 with a semi relic-ed sunburst finish....I love this guitar and it is set up perfectly, with a SD black winter and a jazz.....I was thinking of spraying it with a flat black, and then slightly sand down in specific places to reveal the finish underneath...sort of like the ESP James Hetfield truckster guitars

Re: paint job

I second the idea of a decent black lacquer. It'll work better then paint for what your gonna try to do I believe.

Re: paint job

Plasti-dip. Self leveling and good enough for the homeboys and their matte black fenders on the Hondas.
