Will painting over exposed coil pickups affect the sound or function in any way? Just curious.

No, it should'nt...unless you use shielding paint. :13: kinda trickey to get paint to stick well to plastic though.

Before painting you may want to look into some bobbin toppers if you just want to change the pickup color. Check out this link.

Anyone ever used these toppers with Seymour Duncan pups? Do they fit?

I've been kicking myself for not choosing zebra pups... now I can get the zebra look for $4! Amazing...

Do these things really look good?

Well, I turned my zebra into a double creme :6: the color is slightly off and they are super thin...I ripped my first one as carefull as I am :11: get extras...should be fine for making a zebra out of a black pup.
