Painting Hardware

Hi,

I've been looking all over the web for info on this but i can't seem to find anything, so I figured I'd head to forums...

I'm about to finish a jackson ps-2, and I want the pickup rings/covers, as well as the pickups themselves, to have the same color as the body.

I know ESP does it all the time with their customs, and since I can't find any info on it on the web I was wondering if anyone here knew if it was as simple as spraying the plastic/metal pieces with the same lacquers as the body (which i doubt?) or if there's something else I can do.

I've looked at colored pickups and rings, but the problem with this is every companies "dark blue" is a different shade.

Also, on a related note, does anyone know where I can buy good quality (preferrably plastic) triangle-shaped single-coil pickup rings?

Thanks

Re: Painting Hardware

Plastic parts and metal can be painted. You will have to properly sand (400 grit) and primer. SEM makes a good spray can plastic prep specifically for plastic painting. After the parts are sanded, you shoot it (wet...it's clear) and as it's drying, shoot your paint or primer. It chemically bonds. Then paint color. You MUST use a good clear over your color to assure durability...automotive poly is best. Good luck.

I don't have experience with waterbased...yet, AutoAir is maikng some killer waterbased paints that rival the kandies and flakes I use.
