Parallel Hot Rails made my postion 2 go weak - phase issue?

Hi Guys,

I just put a push-pull pot on my hot rails strat bridge pick up. Works well and I love the parallel tone.

I did this to try and impove my position 2 quack.

However now, when the hot rails is in parallel, the position 2 sound is very weak and tinny. It's fine when the bhucker is in series.

THis is a phase issue right? What do I need to do - switch the middle pick up hot and ground wires over?

Thanks

The problem is you wired the series/parallel switch so that it also changes the phase of the Hot Rails, or possibly putting a single coil out of phase. Post a picture of your guitar (the wiring bits) and the diagram you used.

ok thanks, will do in the next 12 hrs or so.
Note, the parallel switch appears to be working well. DOes that in itself rule out a single coil being out of phase?

Yes it does. If that's the case, chances are you only need to switch the hot and ground on phase switch.

If your middle p'up is a normal single coil & the height is set low then what you are getting is normal, mini buckers like hot rails get weaker in parallel mode. You used a push/pull switch for the dual sound bridge, it's very unlikely that its switching phase in parallel mode if you did follow the duncan wiring instructions for the mod. If you switch the live with ground now, then your series sound will get weak in position 2, provided that it was wired properly before the dual sound mod.

It doesn't hurt to try though, however there is an easier way to check phase between pickups using a dmm without unsoldering anything. If you have a meter then google it up, the method will appear on guitarnuts2 board or duncan blogs.

no, the middle is currently another rail bucker wired in series. I am looking to change out that pick-up to s single coil and have another thread going re that.

Thanks anyway.
