Parallel versus series wiring

My new (Music Man 210/65) amp can drive either 4 ohms or 8. It's set up for a 2x10 speaker configuration, and I'm getting new speakers, since I bought it without. Is it better soundwise to run two 4-ohm speakers in series, for 8 ohms, or two 8-ohm speakers in parallel, for 4 ohms, or doesn't it make any difference?

Re: Parallel versus series wiring

One reason often given is: If your speakers are wired in parallel, then if one speaker were to blow- the other one would still work- the opposite if they are wired in series-
Another reason often given is- run your ohms at it's highest number setting, in your case- 8, because the signal will have to travel the full windings of the output transformer, getting max tone, and putting less stress on other components.
IMO it really doesn't make any difference. But I'm sure there are others here that will give their opinion

I couldnt agree more, the only tone change I heard when I switched my old cab from 16 to 8 was that I wasnt running 2 of the speakers to get 8 ohms. Otherwise no difference.
