Parallel wiring of stacked humbuckers/noiseless single coils?

Can noiseless single coils/stacked humbuckers be wired in parallel?

I feel like the answer should be no since the coils aren't side by side but I thought I'd ask.

Or at least I thought a stack in parallel might not make much of a sound difference since the single coil shape limits the surface area the string passes over.

Basically I'm trying to decide if I want to wire a Parallel Axis single coil to split or be parallel.

This is what I was thinking Supernautilus . Since the coils aren't side by side it won't sound the same as putting a traditional humbucker in parallel.

Considering parallel reduces output even more than split I think it might be a bad idea to do the stack in parallel with a Parallel Axis Distortion in the bridge right next to it.

i never put stacks in parallel, always sounds weak when i tried it. i do like the split sounds though. sometimes there isnt much difference, such as with the cs+ pups, but on older style stacks, the split wiring can have more output as well as a brighter tone

Thanks jeremy . You've probably tipped me toward split then since this will be going into a Sustainiac guitar and wiring a single parallel into a DPDT that is also a tone knob is a lot more of a headache than just splitting it.

Does it matter if the upper or lower coil sends the signal?

absolutely. you want the top coil active. if the bottom coil is active itll sound like crap
