Parametric EQ in Signal chain ??

Heya, I have an AKAI ex85p parametric EQ half rack with a -10dB input AND output and a Looper pedal... Im wondering where I place it in my rack signal chain ??

I have an ADA MP1 preamp / Mesa studio Preamp (I alternate between the 2), TC electronics G major rack (FX processor), AKAI ex85p Para EQ half-size rack, TC electronics Ditto Looper pedal and MESA boogie 290 power amp. Im not sure where to have the para EQ and Looper pedal in the chain due to Line/instrument level issues...

I understand that the Preamp is designed to take the instrument level from the guitar and output a line level signal for the G Major and then the power amp... But where do I put the -10dB para EQ and Looper pedal in the chain ??
Is it still ok for the Parametric EQ & looper pedal to come after the preamp and G major racks just before the power amp even though it says -10dB input + output ??

Re: Parametric EQ in Signal chain ??

Don't swaet the line-level issue. All of your stated gear can handle line level (-10) just fine. If you get clipping anywhere in the process, just reduce the input / output gain or input/output trim wherever the clipping occurs. According the TC, the G major has a 0db min. input and a +/- 12db headroom.

Where does the EQ go in the chain? Anywhere you want it. It depends on the intended use. You can 'pre-shape' the guitar tone before it hits the effects or preamp, or you can 'post-shape' the entire amplified signal and put it last.
Mesa amps put the EQ after both gains stages, though the older ones used to put it between stage one and two. It may vary between amps now but both methods drastically change how an EQ responds. EQ with GAIN can be intense and sensitive. With a standalone EQ, you can put it where you want, even as an insert if the preamp allows for it.

For the Looper, it is the same idea. What do you want looped? The dry non effected signal or the fully wet effected signal or in between? The EQd signal? You can't do it wrong in this instance as all of your gear will play well together. Its only going to come down to the sound that works for you in the end. Experimentation and hours upon hours of switching out cables is a healthy rite of passage that leaves you with some genuine insight. LOL

Remember to enjoy yourself! Cheers and respect!
