Hey all.

Does anyone here have experience with the newer Parkers? Especially the 7 string. I'm looking for a new 7 and these look perfect.

Thanks!

aleclee - What can you tell me about your guitar? How great is it?
Right now, my Parkers are about all I play. After almost ten years as a PRS guy, I played EBMMs for a few years before getting into Parkers. Amusingly enough, I was also considering Parkers when I got my first PRS.

For me, the playability is the killer feature. My Parkers make my PRS and EBMM guitars seem almost clunky in comparison. It's no coincidence that I've sold off a PRS and EBMM in recent months. The Parker trem is a brilliant piece of engineering, especially the pre-refined models where you can switch between floating and dive only by flipping a lever on the back. Aside from the upper horn, the ergonomics are great and once you get used to a five pound guitar, it's hard to play more traditional guitars.

On the downside, the older Parkers aren't the greatest sounding instruments. Pickup tastes back in the day weren't all that and the lightweight body doesn't add much beef to the tone. Newer models with SD pickups are reputed to sound better. I deal with the lack of beef with an AxeFx, which has enough tone-shaping power that the Fly's voice is less of an issue.

Re: Parker Guitars

Thanks for the response!

The 7 string as a set of Duncan Distortions which should cut it. I've been looking for a 7 for a while now and the Parker is the closest to what I need. Most of the 7s have EMGs and I don't want that nor do I want to switch out pickups if I drop a lot of cash.

Not sure when I'll be able to get this but I'll share when I do.

Re: Parker Guitars

I liked the tone I was able to get out of my old Parker; however, it just didn't feel right. If you can play the one you want before buying it then I would recommend that...seems people either love 'em or hate 'em.

Re: Parker Guitars

My Parker is of the not new but not classic either variety, a CS single cut circa 2009 I think. Old Parker headstock but normal pickup routes/pickups and a truss rod in the neck.

My experience is that it feels like a toy due to the weight but is very very comfortable to play. The sound is definitely thin compared to a normal-bodied guitar but with the right pickups I was able to fix that easily. Now I really really like it and, believe it or not, it is my go-to down-tune guitar!

Re: Parker Guitars

Thanks, treyhaislip. I'll keep that in mind.

Most welcome!

My favorite thing about the Parkers was the acoustic and electric pickups. My favorite tone I've ever achieved was thru this feature--electric out with some nice crunch through an old Fender Champ tube amp and the acoustic out with some light square chorus through a Crate 2x12 amp....just loved the combination together.

But, I really didn't like the feel of the guitar...I felt the neck was very strange and the body was uncomfortable personally.

Now they've changed some...you can get some really cheap Parkers without the piezo and with "normal" building materials...

Re: Parker Guitars

I really wish I could try one out. That's what made me buy the EBMM JP6. I tested out the guitar with as many different amps as I could for 2 days before I bought it. It has just about everything I need including the piezo. That's what's making me lean more towards the EDMM Majesty even though I'd rather not get a signature guitar, it does what I need from a guitar.

We'll see. Thanks again everyone!
