Parker Nitefly = holy crap!

Okay you guys know about my newest acquisition, my Parker Nitefly SA. I wasn't sure if I liked it at first and was thinking about returning it. I did some tweaking, put .10's on it (came with 9's), did some setting up, set the bridge to bend down only so it locks when not in use (nice feature). And gave it a few day's playing time. When they say "nothing plays like a parker", it's the truth. I can't believe how effortless this thing plays. I really like the neck now, compound radius, stainless frets and all. I guess I had to just give it a chance. This is definately a keeper, especially considering I paid less than half of new retail cost for it. The Dimarzios in it actually are starting to grow on me, they don't sound too bad (blasphemy, I know) but I'm sure Duncans will go in there before too long. I've never been able to get this many sounds out of a guitar before, especially with the piezo. This is the most versatile instrument I've ever owned.

Re: Parker Nitefly = holy crap!

Glad to hear you're enjoying it. It's a sweet guitar and you got a good deal. I love the neck. That smooth black finnish is NICE! I like the Samurai headstock, too. I was rocking mine through my Valvetronix AD-60 1x12 last night on a Marshall 70's setting and it was good fun. I don't feel inclined to swap the Dimarzios. They're fine. If you do, keep the originals, if for some twist of fate, those Parkers are worth some scratch down the road. Original Steinbergers seem to hold their value a bit and some of them can fetch some money. Now that Parker has sold out to Washburn, there will likely be a cult following of Parker that wants one made in the original factory that they closed down. Now you have to try a Parker Fly. Anybody find a forum for Parker players?

fly eh? hmm, I'm almost afraid to try one out. I don't know if I'd ever be willing to pay $2,500 for a guitar.

Nice, thier great guitars. i was going to buy one, but i fell in love with an ibanez jem so i bought that instead :smack:

Re: Parker Nitefly = holy crap!

I've never met anyone who didn't like their Parkers once they got over the price tag! I haven't been able to rationalize that kind of coin for an instrument yet, though (I'm still hovering in that 1K range), but eventually, I'll probably break down.

I paid more than you for my Nitefly, $699 used. I paid $1,000 for my Parker Fly used and it's minty. It's a 1996 model with the mahogony body. It's sweet, but I like my Nitefly, too. The new ones are bit pricey, and I've noticed that they changed a few things. The new Flys don't have the same whammy bar. On the originals, if you bend the whammy bar just right, it won't fall out every time you bend over. The new one doesn't have the same grooves on it. I think they are using the same whammy unit on the Nitefly and Fly now, which isn't quite as good as the original. But you can't go wrong with a Nitefly, they Rock.

I paid $499 for mine used, but in mint condition and a nice pearl white finish. That's a bargain.
