passive pickup for single pickup guitar?

I have this really cheap Davison guitar and I'm not a fan of the 1 pickup it came with. I'm looking for a passive pickup that would give me a good metal tone for rhythm and for leads. I'm not sure about the body wood, but the neck and fretboard are maple.

It sounds pretty bright I'm thinking it could be basswood or some cheap wood like poplar or something.

I'd probably go with either the Nazgul, Pegasus, or Black Winter. The Nazgul is supposed to be thicker and more aggressive, the Pegasus is supposed to be cleaner than the Nazgul with great note definition and string separation, and the Black Winter is supposed to be more of a great balance between aggression and clarity with a balanced EQ.

Again, another such question where the amp info is missing. Why, when that's 90% of the sound?

But here's a few suggestions anyway:
Alt8
PATB-2
TB-6
JB with a pedal if the amp doesn't have enough gain
Passive EMG HZ-3 with an onboard AfterBurner/TurboCharger set to about 3

I quite honestly don't think that's going to be a huge upgrade. What type of sound in particular are you looking for?

Metal. You know, that generic tone every Metal band has, which is why they all sound alike, even though Metal bands use almost every pickup, guitar, and amp on the market?

Skip the pickup and the amp, get a 10-band EQ pedal and reshape your current tone with it. That'll hold you until you can upgrade to a bigger=better amp that gets closer to the tone you want.
