Pat Travers and ToneLab SE

No real point here other than I saw Pat Travers in a small club last night. I was a ways back so couldn't really see his rig at all, until after the show. I was shocked to see a vox ToneLab SE on the floor, a power amp, some type of Marshall cab miked up and a Boss Octave pedal. Do you know of any other guys of this caliber using similar stage set ups (ToneLab, PodxtLive)? BTW, he did sound really good.

Cool! This story confirms two opinions of mine:

1) The Vox Tonelab SE is a great piece of kit. :approve:

2) Pat Travers rocks! (Always has done, always will do, whatever gear...) :notworthy

Re: Pat Travers and ToneLab SE

I saw Pat last summer in Toronto when he opened for the latest version of The Doors.... All i could see on stage was a Marshall style cab with no markings on it and his PRS guitars... other then that i had no idea what he was using..... it sounded amazing! I wonder if he had that same set up last summer...

I like his "Putting It Straight" rig better...

Ha ha!! I remember getting that album for Christmas in 1977! :smokin:

Think how much quicker the Tonelab is to set up. :D

Pat Travers truely rocks, and he's always had great taste in equip:bowdown:

Re: Pat Travers and ToneLab SE

What's funny is that I use a Vox AD60 head on a Bogner large 2-12 cab as my main practice rig at home, mostly due to noise restraints, but it sounds so good that most of my friends think it's my best amp. All the non-musicians think it's an incredible amp, but even my guitarist friends are convinced, once they hear it. 2 of my friends actually went and bought one after playing on mine.

The key to dialing in the tones is to KNOW how each of the amp models is supposed to sound on the actual tube amp. And the only way they truly come to life is to use the OD models at the same time, and balance the gain between the amp gain and OD gain, just like on a tube amp/OD pedal setup.

Re: Pat Travers and ToneLab SE

I to have been using the VXT 60 watt head for about a year now. It is the most versatile piece I have ever come across. You name the tone and this thing will nail it with none of that line six digital crap tone. That being said, the tone lab has been dicounted $100. they now sell for $499. I think I see one in my future.

Re: Pat Travers and ToneLab SE

I wonder what the power amp thing is that Pat uses with this set up???? At the show i saw he sounded great!

Re: Pat Travers and ToneLab SE

I just wish Vox would come out with an updated 2 spc. rack unit like the POD Pro XT. Vox needs to make it just a little better and offer it as the Valvetronix Professional. I'm baffled that they haven't done it already.

Me too, didn't feel right about jumping up on stage to get to it though. I wish I would've stayed around and talked to him. He was out in the lobby selling shirts and signing autographs and stuff, very accessible, but my son had been up for about 37 hours straight and was running out of gas, so I bailed and got him back to his house. would'a, could'a, should'a (or whatever order these go in)

Re: Pat Travers and ToneLab SE

I had the pleasure of running sound for PT a few years ago- well more than a few years- at a club, anyway- he was using a 5150 head- just after they had come out, the first I'd ever seen-a few rack mounted effects, and an old Marshall 4x12 cab that looked like it had been kicked across the US! He sounded great! The opening act's guitarist had brought in 2 full stacks of Marshalls, and PT's sound blew his away!
I got him to sign the album cover shown in previous posts- He was really a nice guy!, can't understand what happened to his career tho'- one day playing arena's the next, playing small clubs.
