PATB-3 in mahogany

Guys,
Was wondering if any one has tried or heard a PATB-3 Blues Saraceno in a mahogany fixed bridge guitar. Would it fit between a '59 and a C5?:help:

Re: PATB-3 in mahogany

Well, I had one in a Hamer Californian Standard. It was a mahogany body with a bolt on maple neck and a Floyd. It was very clear and articulate with a great, tight bottom end. Pinch harmonics were very easy to coax out of it. I would say that it was most like the 59/Custom hybrid pickups. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't mind getting another one some day so I can try it in some different guitars.

Re: PATB-3 in mahogany

Travis thanks for your input, but I thought you'd be recommending dual Duncan Distortions (j/k). But that wouldn't be a bad idea.
This is for a Dean '79 Z, and I'm going after a classic rock vibe. So I was thinking of something like a '59, but a little more "umph". Like a C-5 or Custom for the bridge, and perhaps a Pearly Gates or Jazz for the neck.
I happen to have a PATB-3 sitting in a box, so I thought of maybe of playing with that for awhile.
Thanks again!

Re: PATB-3 in mahogany

To tell you the truth, I had a Distortion in that Californian and I liked the PATB-3 Blues better. In that axe, it just worked. I've got a Hamer Standard Mahogany and I dropped in a Custom-5/APH-1 combo and it does great for classic rock. The Custom-5 should be at the top of your list for bridge pickups in your Dean Z.

BTW, I've got some extra pickups (zebra Custom/Custom, black 59b, black Jazz neck) if you're looking to unload that PATB-3 Blues. Perhaps you would be interested in a trade?

Re: PATB-3 in mahogany

I actually bought the PATB-3 and a APH-1 as back up pup's for a maple/maple neck alder guitar (that's getting painted) that has a '59 and a JB. But I thought in the mean time I could try it out in the Z. I have a Jazz neck that I'm trying to trade for either a reverse APH-1 or a PG.

Re: PATB-3 in mahogany

I have one in a mahogany Warmoth VW with a maple/RW neck. I use a 250k pot but I like it a lot. I pulled a C5 and replaced with the PATB like 6 years ago and have never had to touch it again

Re: PATB-3 in mahogany

It was very good in my LP. Think of it as a PAF that's a bit darker, more compressed, and fuller without being much hotter and you've got the idea. It's great for pretty much anything you'd use an electric guitar for.

BTW, I had it with a PGn and a 59. It liked the 59 better. ;) :burnout:
