Patb2 and sh10n

Hi all,

My guitar has a mahogany body and neck with an exotic Brazilian wood on top and a Brazilian Rosewood on its scale. It also have a Gotoh Floyd Rose bridge.

Nowadays my pickups are an TB6 (Distortion) on bridge and an SH1 (59) on neck.

I'm thinking in replace these pickups for one PATB2 (Distortion Parallel Axe) on bridge and one SH10n (Full Shred) on neck.

I'm playing sounds like Dream Theater, Yes, Rush, Dokken, Greg Howe Queensryche and other heavy bands.

Any one of you have an idea about these two pickups (PATB2 and SH10) working toghether on a Mahogany body?

I'm interested in get good clean and distorted sounds.

Thank you all,

Ivo

Re: Patb2 and sh10n

I've used both PuP's...in a Basswood Jackson. I think they'd go real well in your guitar. The PATB-2 is pretty hot and compressed...just like the DD. Its a little less 80's sounding than a DD. To me...the high end was a little brittle, but your mahog guitar should smooth that out.

I've used both the sh10n and sh10b in the neck spot, and prefer the b over the n. Just has a little more clarity and a little less bassiness. I think the b would also match up better with the PATB-2 output...but you'll be happy with either the b or n.

Hi Mustaine Who,

First of all, thanks for your help!

Regarding to what you sad I was thinking and I have 2 more doubts.

Doubt One:
In the begining of my pickup research I was thinking that PATB2 had same tonal features than TB6, but it is not true. I believe that it has a lack of high end.

Do you agree with it?

I'm trying to find a pickup with same tonal ranges of TB6, but with more output and sustain, do you have any sugestions.

Doubt Two:
If I install a SH10b on neck position I'm not suppoused to have an excessive output? I know that I can increase the distance between pickup and strings, but in that way, I'll not have a lack of sustain?

Thanks again for your attention and suport.

The SH10 is a medium output pickup. I'm sure it would be higher in output than your 59n, but not as hot as a distortion type pickup.

I have a couple of mahogany body guitars with SH10n in the neck position. It's a very nice pickup for soloing. It reminds me a lot of Iron Maiden's neck position solos. It sounds good clean too.
