Re: Pawn shop finds...

Marshall JCM 602 all tube, like new- $200.00 kept this one.
1963 Gibson SG Junior-$900.00 Sold for $1600.
Line6 POD-$35. Sold for $75.

Re: Pawn shop finds...

'65 Epiphone Olympic- $325. I was at the store the day it came in. I got a quote on the price from the owner, he said come back in 2 days, and let them get it cleaned up. When I came back with cash in hand, I casually asked "how much?" And he had the nads to say 5 even. I reminded him of the quote two days previous, and he relented.

It originally had the Maestro vibrato and "lightning" wraparound tailpiece- I traded that for the Schaller 455 (that used to belong to a pretty famous rockstar kinda guy). The pickup was flaky, but a few years later I cracked the headstock, so I didn't feel too bad about getting a P-90 put in and a new pickguard cut. It's a light, ballsy rock machine.

Re: Pawn shop finds...

I used to go into Performance guitar as a teenager.....probably around the time that one was made. The place was catty corner from the Capitol Records pokerchip building.

I found an old boutique Marshall, a Risson, head at a pawn shop for $260.
A Chandler lap steel for $150
Marshall JCM 800 2205 50W head for $420
Fender 68 Showman head for $150 because the tubes were dead.
Boss EQ pedal for $25

It's pretty cool, I stepped into their place when I was in LA a couple of weeks ago. Very cool guys. I need to e-mail the owner some pics of her and he'll try to find me the build0sheet of any info he has.

She was born on August 23, 1985. She's soon 20!

If anyone in LA/Hollywood needs a pickup, Performance probably have it in stock. Never have I seen selection like that! Wow...! :notworthy

Re: Pawn shop finds...

Pawn shops are catching up..... you got that guitar for $230 Can!!! Thats less than the tremolo alone!!

Re: Pawn shop finds...

I think the internet and ebay have killed off my pawn shop scores. I did find a most excellent MIM Strat (neck was the prize actually) in a shop a while back. Had some nasty formica pickguard with 3 Lace Sensors. Sold the Sensors and the guitar ended up costing me like 50 bucks total. Popped some duncans into it and gave it a new paint job and it's a killer 50 buck strat that my son promptly stole.

Re: Pawn shop finds...

My wife bought a Harmony H44 (1956) at a yard sale for $15.00. It needed to be rewired and a new pickguard. I use it to play slide in open G. It really is a cool little guitar.

Yea, they suck around here big time also!!! I dont even step foot into them at all. It would be a huge waste of time!!! This one pawn shop in my town trys to sell used epiphone Les Pauls for the $900-$1100 range. No kidding!!!!! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: Needless to say the guy is a DumbA$$!!!! He however gives killer deals on new Martin acoustics though!!!! My buddy got his HD-28 for like $400 dollars cheaper than MF was selling them for. ......go figure???

Re: Pawn shop finds...

73' Strat - $150 about a year and a half ago. Pulled out of a closet of a guy that used to play in teh South End. He just wanted some closet space back.

Gotta love Craigslist!

Re: Pawn shop finds...

I got my MIJ Squire 57RI at a pawnshop here in town for 170. A MIK Squire strat for 100. Peavey something or another strat style made in USA custom colbalt blue paintjob, stainless steel engraved pickguard, Fender noiseless pickups, 170. Sears acoustic OM style, great player, 50 bucks. All these came from EZ Pawn, which kinda suprises me since I would think that they would be more expensive given the fact that they're a national chain. The other pawnshop in town has a MIM Standard Strat with a changed out pickguard for 700 bucks, and a MIA Strat for 1200.

Non guitar stuff, I bought a saddle at EZ Pawn for 120. A Marlin semi-auto .22 rifle for 70. a gold ring for slink for 70 or so. a Buck hunting knife, never used, leather sheith, present box/collectors box for 50. Great prices on stuff.

Re: Pawn shop finds...

Best thing I ever got from a Pawn shop to be honest was a classical nylon-string. It was missing it's low E string, but had the most incredible voice for some reason. I can't remember the brand, but it was an absolute beauty. It's easily the nicest sounding classical guitar I have ever played.

Cost me a £5. Nice.

:biglaugh: I've been told that it was in that pawn shop for a long time. One of the users over at jcfonline visits Vancouver once a year and he has seen it for at least the last 3 years.

I figure it didn't say "Gibson" or "Fender" or even "Squier" or "Epiphone" so the owner of the store had no idea what it was. I had to look in 3 editions of the Blue Book before I found a listing for Performance, and even then there was limited info. However, I figured instantly that it was worth more than I would pay for it. Performance told me it was probably a Custom for someone, and the same guitar would cost $2000 US to have them make one now.
