pawn shop guitar tone

I'm looking for a grungy slide guitar (like Hound Dog Taylor) tone for one of my test bed guitars. Single coil suggestions only please. Anything out there get that tone or will I have to go custom shop?

Re: pawn shop guitar tone

I had an old Pencrest acoustic guitar (JC penny catalog garbage?) that I put a standard strat single coil in the soundhole. I used some curtain hanging hardware for the pickup mount. The action was so bad on it I could only use it for slide. I just ran the wires to a combo jack/endpin. That guitar was delta blues all the way! It was so bad it was good! Considering what garbage all the old delta players played it fit right in.

RIght on! Also, cruise you rlocal pawn shops. One in my town has a Univox 335 copy in pretty good condition that nails the old school blues vibe. It's going for $80 bucks too. :burnout:

The strange thing about that guitar was how all of my guitar player friends loved the sound! It did a damn fine Nirvana crappy acoustic tone too! Although I did have to repot the pickup since the hollowbody was prone to feedback. Get some garage sale guitar and a discarded pickup. Nothing fancy or high tech.
