PC rocks the Strat!!!

Over the weekend I finally got to finish my new strat. I put a Phat Cat in the bridge position. I have two APS-1s inthe n/m as well. Let me say that I was a bit apprehensive about the PC in the bridge, but figured what the hell. I'm very glad that I gambled on this fine pickup. What a great pup! I wired the guitar with three 250k CTS pots, and a 5-way standard strat switch. The singles behave exactly the way they are supposed to. Nice vintage tones that perform well under high gain applications. The real winner in the guitar is the PC, though. From creamy vintage tone, ala Mountain to spot on VH II tones... it's there. This is exactly what I wanted for this guitar!!! I'll try to get some pics up when I get home this afternoon. I affectionately have dubbed the guitar "the banana-caster." (It's yellow.) All I have left to do is put the warmoth parchment pickguard on when it arrives.

Re: PC rocks the Strat!!!

I was thinking about doing this on one of my strats but I am concerned about the pole pieces being properly aligned. I have put a non Trembucker humbucker in a strat WAY back when I was young and foolish and the results were horrible.

Is there any chance you can post the pole piece measurements (space between pole pieces specifically) on the phat cat. Or better yet, could you post a picture of the Bananacaster.

Thank you in advance,

Re: PC rocks the Strat!!!

I'm pretty sure the Phat Cat is 50mm. In the bridge position, the strings don't have to line up dead center on the poles to get full volume and output. It's much more crucial on the neck, so the Phat Cat may very well work on your guitar. It sure seems to work for this guy...

Re: PC rocks the Strat!!!

I'm intrigued - post the pics!

I'm guessing the banana-caster was a fat strat HSS. How does it sound with th e switch in the middle/bridge position? Doesn't the Phat Cat overwhelm the middle single coil?

Re: PC rocks the Strat!!!

Actually the PC doesn't overwhelm the middle sc. It balances quite nicely. Yeah, it started life as an agave blue 2002 MIM strat. The neck was misaliened, so I picked up a new neck and decided to try something different in the bridge. the PC works great in the bridge and I don'r have any problems with the pole pieces not lining up. I have notice no drop in volume from string to string. Maybe Seymour will come out with a TB-PC.
