Peace Sells...But Who's Buying - pickup

Ain't got the time to watch the vid below but it appears to involve Bill Lawrence L500's AND active electronics, with which passive pickups necessarily sound different, especially if a Varitone completes the boost as it appears to be the case here (a high inductance pickup can actually sound glassy / edgy with active electronics, while it would sound fatter and darker in any "passive" circuit).

Now, the schematic shared in the page below shows a single transistor boost a la Stratoblaster, and a 1nF cap apparently there to emulate the missing cable, like in a Jackson JE1000 preamp.

Such a circuit would be easy to "breadboard", FWIW (I've built once a Stratoblaster preamp and it didn't take me a long time). The varitone seems possible to mimic with a Bill Lawrence Q filter + a rotary switch + 5 caps. It's less complex than a Gibson VariTone.

FWIW.

I hear a lot of upper mid push on that album, doesn't sound like SuperD to me. The Conjuring must be in my top 10 thrash tunes of all times.
