Pearly Gates, 59, or SH-11

which would be best for a alder body strat for the bridge. I'm looking for something fat that will do crunchy (not metal) more classic rock - heavy rock.

If one of these will work, should I change my other pups as well?

What about vintage rails or cool rails? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome streetknight! Tip - Never take advice from someone with a muppet avatar, or a screen name that could be either a big dude or an alternate lifestyle chic.

Here's what you'll get:
59 - big bottom, decent highs. Classic PAF - should work well depending oin the amp
PG - tighter bottom, more upper mid cut, slightly smoother/fatter highs.
CC - Crnchy but looser bottom, mega-mids, and super fat top end.

I think the CC may be what you want. Crunchy and fat. PG or 59 are more classic PAF styles, and fairly similar. more highs from the PG though.

PG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hey aceman i think it was you who suggested me this pup when i joined haha!!

Re: Pearly Gates, 59, or SH-11

I did read the CC was for bright guitars is why I thought it might be a good choice for the strat.

When you say a "loose" bottom, what do you mean? Does that mean it's not gonna respond to palm muting and stuff as well? Sorry I'm new at this.

Also, hypethetically, I choose the CC for the bridge. This should cover my ac/dc, 80's hair band, all around rock tones right?

And what other pups should I put in the neck and middle, or should I just leave them alone. I would like to be able to get a good blues tone.

What do you think?

Re: Pearly Gates, 59, or SH-11

I just replaced a 59B with a CC in my adler body/maple neck Schecter Tele last night (thanks to Kosh Narek). Fat is definitely the word for it. It's a lot more powerful than the 59, and less bright. I think you're right about palm muting - the CC isn't the best for that. It's not that it lacks low in terms of volume, its more that the low end is a little slow, if you know what I mean.

Re: Pearly Gates, 59, or SH-11

NONE of the above. Well, maybe the CC but, the PATB-3 will be better and more versatile IMO. The PATB-3 is Very fat, LP like, yet, it is tighter and has more clarity than the CC so it can pull off all forms of rock in addition to a host of other style.

Once again, this gem of a pickup is overlooked.
