Pearly gates changes?

How long have they been around and have they been changed in any way and if so, in what way and what were the transition years? Thanks.
 
They were introduced in 1979. The only possible change I'm aware of is switching from butyrate bobbins to poly carbonate. Don't remember what year Duncan switched.
