Pearly Gates + Custom Custom, Oh boy!

So finally got my tele modded and set up. Man it sounds even much better than it looks. Thanks guys so much for the support. I pretty much got the sound I was looking for: raw, gnarly but with a good twang and cuts through the mix like nothing else. Ah, btw, the Pearly Gates splits like a total champ. It's probably the most usable splits I've ever had.

I'll post a few vids or tracks soon. She's hitting the studio in a few weeks. Cheers!

Hottest Tele I have ever seen (with two humbuckers). Is that a John 5 model?

Re: Pearly Gates + Custom Custom, Oh boy!

I have spoke often of this combo.

Not for everyone, but if it works for you - oh man!

I can totally see how that really kicks @$$ in a Tele!!

We need clips!

Re: Pearly Gates + Custom Custom, Oh boy!

I have had that combination in one of my Les Pauls for about the past 15 years. I dig it.

Just curious if there is a big difference in volume levels when switching CC to PG or any when split?

I am not surprised the OP is well pleased with the tonal options offered by the set. After spending more time here lately, I find A2 magnets offered as the "standard" or "starting point" in more HB designs on the SDCS page. The humbuckers that are advertised (especially) with A2 mags are: ‘78 Model, Bug-Sey ‘Bucker, Nokie Edwards Dual Blade HB, Nokie Strat®-HB Duo, Joe Bonamassa [neck], RTM, IM1, Greenie, Concept Set [bridge], the Fuglybucker, Éclair, and the El Diablo - 12 I believe. Back when I thought ceramics and A8s were the only way to go, I would look at the above bit of info and respond, "well I guess the CS just wants people to know they can even slap a rather weak, unappealing magnet in in there if that's what the buyer wants. Now, my reaction might be, " looking at how the CS page markets its HBs it seems some guitarists are willing to pay a little (or a lot) extra for a custom designed pickup with uniquely wound A2 magnets.

I would like to try this combo myself - but only available guitar is strat style with mahogany and maple cap with OFR. It has mahogany set neck with rosewood board. Although the guitar has good sustain, I cannot say that it is actually warm. Maybe because of Floyd? But, the line about "great for taming bright guitars' has kept me away from CC along time now. Although, she's my only guitar up for new PUPs maybe I should tinker with an overwound A2 in the bridge...hmmm.

Re: Pearly Gates + Custom Custom, Oh boy!

The CC will split just fine.

Pearly might be light unless in the neck, or with another split Pearly (which is what's in my Cadillac…)
