Hi out there, anybody experience if its - from the tonal point of view - worth to wire that PU for switching options series and Parallel e.g. by using a push/pull-switch? Thanks! Harry

Re: Pearly Gates in bridge position - parallel/series-wiring

I had a bridge PG (Before I replaced it with a Alnico Pro II) and a neck PG both wired with a separate Series/Split/Parallel mini switch plus a Phase Reversal Push/Pull, and I liked all the sounds combination I could get. But to be honest, the switches are almost always in the Series position, but it is fun to have different sounds to play with.

So to answer your question, yes it is worth it to wire any pickup with either a split or parallel switch, I just don't know how often your going to use it...

I used it in an Artcore AS83, ES-335 knockoff, and absolutely loved it.
I found that it worked well coil cut and series/paralleled.

Good luck.

Re: Pearly Gates in bridge position - parallel/series-wiring

series/parallel isn't all that great with a low output bridge position pickup, imo. i've had my PG8 wired up for twin coil cuts, which when both were active it gave me parallel. it sounded like the screw(closer to the bridge) coil with very low output, minus the single-coil glassyness with even less output. that's just my experience though, and i cut output from an already low output source. i've heard good things about using parallel for higher output bridge pickups, and is worth trying in most neck pickups.

quite interesting experience - thanks for your comment!

+1. In parallel, ohms drop to 25% of series, so an 8,000 ohm bridge PU, goes to 2,000 in parallel, which is puny with a capital P. Weak, thin, & all treble. Not a lot of use for that. In the neck, you have much more string energy & mids, so parallel works much better.
