Pearly Gates neck with 59 bridge

Re: Pearly Gates neck with 59 bridge

Fantastic Combo.

59 is tight in bass, and cuts.

The PG is like a 59 with the eq tilted in all the right directions for the neck. My favorite neck pup overall.

It adds an upper mid punch to the 59 when both are on and serious sweetness to the highs.

Re: Pearly Gates neck with 59 bridge

Totally agree about PG in neck. It's a great neck pup.

To me, the 59 is a little weak and bright in the bridge. An A8 magnet in the 59b gives it more oomph, softens the highs, and add a little in the mids making it sound much warmer. A UOA5 magnet is also a good change for the 59b.

I like a 59 Bridge for a great all-around pup. Just depends on what you want out of it. There are always things that I like better (and louder!) but a PG/59 combo would be a great all around classic PAF style set for whatever you'd want to play.

Re: Pearly Gates neck with 59 bridge

Not exactly what you asked about, but I have a 59/C in the bridge of a S style and was never satisfied with the neck position until I installed a PGn. I had already tried a PAF Pro, Sentient, and a PAF Joe. All those were either lacking something or had too much of something.

The PGn was the sound I was looking for, and the middle position is killer when blended with the 59/C.

Re: Pearly Gates neck with 59 bridge

Tried it in an SG and LP Studio. 59b/PGn makes a better set than a straight 59 set for sure. I think I once posited on here that should be the factory pickup set on Gibsons.

Re: Pearly Gates neck with 59 bridge

I have the APH-1n - its not overly forgiving - BUT I just put it in and am getting very use to it! I have it paired with a PGb they go nice together - the PG has more sizzle. I have these pups installed in a Epiphone es339
and I am getting feedback from the PGb .. anyway..
I wanted to ask if the PGn was as responsive as the APH-1n?
The APH-1n does seem to have a bit of brightness to it which I like!!
And I think the APH-1n and Hybrid 59/Cb would pair really nicely! So probably the PGn and Hybrid 59/Cb would pair nicely too!! Id love to try the Hybrid 59/Cb with an Antiquity HBn or Maybe even the Hybrid Antiquity Jazzn !!?

Re: Pearly Gates neck with 59 bridge

The APH-1 is wonderful with the Hybrid, but I love the APH-1 in just about any guitar. It doesn't have the high end like a PG, which works for me.
