Hey
I am in a little trouble deciding which pickups i wanna chose for my epiphone les Paul plustop Pro.
Is there someone of you that have played both, that can do a pro and cons on them
I have one other les Paul with the slash set and find it fantastic for rock, hard, rock and blues

The epi i wanna put pg or whl in is gonna play in the blues to hardrock genre. And dont wanna have the same pickups in two guitars so slash is of the list

I also have a sg i wanna put Custom 5 in the bridge and a 59 or jazz in the neck the sg is gonna play hard rock/metal. Other suggestions i happy welcome

Sorry of my english is bad im from Denmark and not writing in english that often

Re: Pearly Gates or whole lotta humbucker

Your English is great, man. No need to worry about that. I have had a PG set in a Les Paul, but I've never tried a WLH set, so I can't make an inflrmed comment, but the subject does hold my interest.

Re: Pearly Gates or whole lotta humbucker

Thanks man
Is the pg set a good set in your opinion :-)

It is! It cuts through well in a band mix and has a nice upper midrange push that makes artificial harmonics jump out. It's not as smooth and balanced as the APH set that your Slash pickups are based on, but they're not overly boomy or shrill. In fact, I went from a 59 set to a PG set in my LP because I wanted to get a clearer, less bottom heavy tone out of the neck position.

Re: Pearly Gates or whole lotta humbucker

A 59 & Custom 5 would be wonderful in an SG.

Re: Pearly Gates or whole lotta humbucker

Agree - PG in LP - have tried WLH and are excellent but PG in LP for sure.
SG my favorite is P-Rails...somehow the SG just sings with P90s and the rails will let you go into turbo mode.

Save your money and buy a better guitar

I say rock the guitar you have, and swap whatever pickups you put it in, in the future guitar when/if you get one.

I bought a PG bridge pickup from a forum member for my Les Paul Studio. It was good, but just missing something. So back to the trading post I went, and bought a WLH. That was it! I’m not the best at describing the intricacies in pickups tones, but the WLH was the one for me.

Re: Pearly Gates or whole lotta humbucker

Thanks for all the replys, i think i will go for the pearly gates set for lp and the custum 5, 59 in the sg, and then maybe switch the magnets if it not sounds the way i want.
just one more question if i change an alnico 2 to a higher number alnico, will that also generate more output with the other tings another magnet do.

AJK1 in my opininon is epiphone a descent guitar when the electronics and hardware are replaced, i can not justify in my budget a guitar like gibson 3-4 times more expensive,
i have tried a studio, standard and the cheaper tribute ones and dont think they are specticular better than the epi lp i have, both in feel and sound, but thats just my opinion, and if others are more happy with there gibsons i am happy for them.
But have played a lp from a danish custom builder called Mørch that was extreme awesome to play,

Totally agree on guitar s.. These days, upper end Epis often out play and sound better than the Gibs... If you have a good one, hold on to it!

If you are ok with Japanese/Far East guitars of good quality, then why say something as dooschy as this...???

Save your money and buy a better guitar

Re: Pearly Gates or whole lotta humbucker

If you haven't bought them yet...I vote PG neck and a different bridge. I doubt you could beat the 59/custom hybrid for most applications

Re: Pearly Gates or whole lotta humbucker

PG neck with WHL bridge. Nothing beats the alnico 2 and 5 combination.

I said and recommended JAP TOKAI, nothing else
Nothing ******y about my recommendation
And if you're going to use the word ******y, at least spell it correctly u nob

Because they used the offensive racial epithet "Jap" in the same post. Doosch comes with that territory.
