Pearly Gates Plus: compatible with DiMarzio Area pups?

I'm planning on turning my Strat into a Fat Strat, and I have a SD PG+ for the bridge. I like what I've heard about the Area '58 and '61 pups, but will they be a good fit with the PG+? The humbucker is a fairly low output pup, and so are the Area pups. I'd like to keep everything noiseless.

Also, I'm not sure which Areas to use in the middle and neck positions. I play everything from squeaky-clean to distorted Classic Rock, with some Modern Rock thrown in, too. My set-up is Strat, Maxon OD-9, and a Jeckyll & Hyde into a Blues Junior amp. Thanks!

You may have to experiment with your pot's... The PG wants a 500K or 350K and the DiMarzios want 250K... The PG is pretty bright, so maybe 250K's would be ok...

They would likely work fine together, just a matter of tweaking the relative heights of the 3 pu's to get the right balance.

As for the pots, it's probably not much of a big deal, but you could split the difference with a 500k volume pot and 250k's on the tones. But there are other possibilities so as sonny said, don't be afraid to experiment.

if you're gonna use a 500k volume i would be tempted to go with the dimarzio cruiser or fast track 1. dont quote me but i believe the dimarzio area pickups are meant to go with a 250k volume pot. they might go ice pick if you use a 500k volume.

its the classic fat strat dilemma. choke the humbucker with a 250k pot or have the "single coils" go ice pick with a 500k pot. there is about 100 posts about that dilemma.

from what i've heard/read/seen the areas nail a pretty good vintage tone with no hum, but the cruiser/fast track 1 are designed to be used with humbuckers.

cool rails would also be a good choice (of course 500k vol pot).

well the areas are great. I use 500k pots because I use a PGn and a Invader bridge and i just roll the tone off a little bit and it's fine, and the hbs roar which is a very good thing. But the PG+ is kinda bright so maybe with 250 they'll do fine. Oh and yes, I think the areas and a low-ish output bucker like that one will mix fine and the splits could be very nice

Re: Pearly Gates Plus: compatible with DiMarzio Area pups?

the dimarzios will sound good with 250k pots, but i think the pg+ will be too bright. if i were you, i'd lose the pg+ and replace it with the patb-3. don't lose the dimarzios because they're really good. if you're going to stick with the pg+, you might want to consider getting something a little brighter like a couple of area 57.
