I need info on the PG plus, does this have a stronge output than the PG?

Re: Pearly gates plus! hot or not?

I love it in my LP. It's a bit hoter, brighter, and has tighter bass than the regular PG. If you're using 250k pots in your strat, it should work fine.

Re: Pearly gates plus! hot or not?

Maybe the Custom Custom will work for you. It's big, fat, and round. It roars with distortion and it cleans up quite well. Its split tones are rather good as well, which should make it work well in conjunction with your middle pickup. Some people say that in a strat it gets close to EVH's post 1984 tones. I have one in my maple Carvin DC-127T and i can play anything from country to funk all the way to hard rock and metal with this thing.

WAIT
the PG+ is nastier?

So if I get a PG+ and put the A2 back in it, would it be bigger and nastier than my current PG? Would it be darker? Fatter? Still have nice top?

Re: Pearly gates plus! hot or not?

PG+ is a total NOT in my book. I got one in the Texas Special Strat I had a while back and it was just too shrill for me.

I'd agree here. It's a medium output, hot PAF. It'll rip with distortion, but it'll clean up nicely. Won't overdrive your amp like hot pups will, like a DD would. Basically, it's good if you like PAF tone, but want a little more "oomph!" from it under gain, and since it's got A2 mags, it won't sound shrill in your strat like some A5 pups might.

Not necessarily nastier, just a touch hotter and bigger. It still has nice highs, but they are rolled back a bit when compared to the mids. It's not a huge difference, but it's there.

Re: Pearly gates plus! hot or not?

The PG+ is an alnico 5 PGb made for Fender. Regular PG's use alnico 2. Other than that they are the same pickup.

The PG+ has more bass and more treble and less midrange. When a pickup has less midrange than another pickup it sounds brighter and treblier compared to that other pickup.

But the PG+ is not a hot pickup. It's a vintage 50's style pickup similar to the 59B.

From what I understand, the PG+ is just a PG with an Alnico 5 in it. I haven't tried the swap on one but my best guess is that with the PG not having real strong mid-mids and low mids, an Alnico 5 would make it even scoopier.

You can bring your PRS over one of these nights when you come to get O-Bucker #3 and we can try the swap though.

The PG+ is NOT a trembucker. I have a couple lying around and they are all normal spaced. They have to be to fit in the standard spaced covers I got from Martinsixstringcustoms. ;)

BTW, while the PG+ is not a hot pickup, it is consistently the hottest Duncan PAF I've come across. I did a back to back comparo between a standard PG (8.4k) and a PG+ (8.8k) with an alnico II mag. My findings are explained above.

Re: Pearly gates plus! hot or not?

Are there other colours thant this bright white on the PG+? Anyone tried it with a A3?
