Pearly Gates Single Coil Size Humbucker

Why is this pickup such a mystery? I can't find any reviews or information on it anywhere except what's on Seymour Duncans custom shop page and that's not much. I use full size Pearly Gates in all my guitars so I'm familar with it but we all know the single coil size humbuckers never sound the same. If anyone has this little beast and could share your opinion on it would be much appreciated.

I'm interested to find outas well. I'm a little leary about dropping that $$ on a pickup that no one ever seems to have heard or used.

i've played one, it sounds like a slightly overwound little 59 to me. bit more bass as well.

I'm playing through a Mesa Boogie DC-3 and the SD SSL-1's in my strat don't cut it for my style, I use lots of gain. At $130 the PG single coil is pretty steep. Any other bridge pickup that's more affortable and kicks ass you would recommend? not a JB fan. Think Pat Travers style. I love the look of the three single coil setup, don't want to change the pickguard.

I like mine. It's big, fat, and punchy with great cut and presence without loosing sweetness in the highs when played clean. I don't think it sounds exactly like the full on Pearly, but it's close enough through a cranked Rivera and it always puts a smile on my face.

Thanks for the info, I think I'll bite the bullet and buy one from the custom shop.

A lil '59 (with a good, smooth distortion and a Marshall Supervibe chorus) will easily do some Travers, but a PG does it as well or better, I think. Nothing at all wrong with the 59, though.

I stumbled on Travers' tone one night by accident, fiddling around with the knobs on the Supervibe, and whammo...instant "Crash & Burn".

Re: Pearly Gates Single Coil Size Humbucker

You don't hear much about it because it's not really been out that long and it is a CS pickup...I tried one once and was REALLY impressed with it but inthe long run I went back to a true single coil in my Strat...

Re: Pearly Gates Single Coil Size Humbucker

Despite the fact SD makes awesome pickups of all kinds, Dimarzio also has a huge selection of normal priced single sized HBs that you can check out.

Just a thought

If you're set on that one though, shell out the extra $$ otherwise you'll just end up with a bunch of pups you're not into instead of one perfect pup.
