In the bridge they are very different. The APH1b is pretty thin and sharp, just listen to Gun's'Roses. The PG fills in more of the bottom. The PG also has some sizzle on top that some love and some hate. A lot of people really like the APH1b in the bridge of a Les Paul. It can make the LP really scream. The PG also has LP fans but I think the PG really shines in Tremolo guitars where it fills in the tremolo hole. As a matter of fact I think a APH1b in a LP has similar uses to a PG in a vintage trem Strat.
In the neck of a Les Paul the PG can get an overdose of low mids and there I don't like the texas sizzle. The APH1n is boring, IMHO. But it's hard to find a neck pickup for a Les Paul that is not boring but also not boomy.
In the end they are close enough that you probably can't make a decision any other way than trying both. This is below Internet description scope.

It depends on what you play. Most professionals rarely play more than two strings at a time and then you don't have a problem with boomy.
Myself I don't care
and hence need a pickup that isn't boomy. In the neck of a LP I have difficulty finding a pickup. I like the Antiquity neck and a APB1b with A5 in the neck. If the guitar is really boomy you put in a Screamin' Demon (bridge) into the neck.
