I was offered a trade for my Peavey 5150 combo for a Fender Super Sonic 60 head and $300, is this a good deal?

I like to play some 7 string stuff (but mostly like Lacuna Coil so light metal) I mostly play some lead tones through my Jackson.

so good trade or bad trade?

(both products are in good condition)

Eh, I'd say no. The supersonic is awesome, but so is a 5150. Straight up trade to maybe trade +100. If you changed speakers, change em back.

what? lol I haven't changed speaker and so you think +100 is better?

Re: Peavey 5150 Combo for a Fender SuperSonic +300

I just think a 5150 combo is as good, if not better, than a supersonic head for metal. The supersonic has more clean tones but I haven't heard a clip of its hi gain that would compete with a 5150. Also, need a cab.

Clear up who's parting with the cash.

If the Supersonic head was worth $300 more than the 5150 combo. That's how I read it. The Supersonic head is nice but not that nice...
wait, is the dude offering to give you the head and $300 for the 5150 combo?

I dunno. Might be worth it if you have a cab. You could probably buy a 6505 head for $300 if you look hard enough, I dunno about a 5150 though. You may not be able to get that tone with the supersonic head though.

So, is it the Fender + $300's for a 5150 ?

Or the 5150 + $300's for the Fender SS ?

Re: Peavey 5150 Combo for a Fender SuperSonic +300

MY PEAVEY and +300 for his FENDER (SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION)

Re: Peavey 5150 Combo for a Fender SuperSonic +300

May I also add that I am not that much into playing "hardcore metal" if you may, I am currently using other then my peavey a Marshall JCM800 and a Zakk Wylder Berzerker overdrive and I love it for the lead tones the distortion is a little to bright for me so I don't know take that info and run with it :P

EDIT: I am more into doing some lead tones; ie.: A7X, and some more like Sabbath and EVH stuff, and RR.

Well if you have a JCM for your hot side, get the Supersonic for the cleans and slightly dirties. I'm sticking with straight trade or just some slight money changing hands though; a 5150's a nice amp and a Supersonic with no speakers doesn't add up.

Besides, I don't think the Supersonic is really good for the band sounds you're talking about. It's a Fendery clean amp that CAN do hi gain, but it's a hairy channel. More punkish than clean studio nu metal. May do the vintagey Sabbath sound, but your JCM is more fit for that.

Sounds like you need a Laney Ironheart.

EDIT, yea what Toneseeker says. the 5150 does all that except vintagey sabbath, unless you get a good pedal. I suggest saving your 300 and buying a Hovercraft Ionostrofear mk2. It's a doom amp in a pedal and will voice itself to vintage metal-y Laney or Hiwatt.

Hmm interesting... Keep going on other amp suggestions I like it so far.

Re: Peavey 5150 Combo for a Fender SuperSonic +300

Keep the 5150.

. . . . ^ ^ ^ THIS !

That Fender is a great amp, IF, you are into those kinda tones, but it is not (IMHO) worth for you to 'loose' your 5150 AND 300 bucks for that amp . . . unless you want to move over to the Fender-style tones.

If you can, look into the VOX AC50CP.
They also made a 100W version, if you need more fire power.

It is such an uber UNERRATED AMP it is insane.
It can doe GREAT, GREAT cleans and can get real vintage'y proto-Metal tones (Sabbath, Pentagram and the like).
It was their attempt at a higher-gain amp, but floped, because everyone thought it should sound like a Mesa Recto, or something, and it deff did not.

Hell, even i am still lusting after one ;)

Re: Peavey 5150 Combo for a Fender SuperSonic +300

I'm looking into LESS power :P right now I am looking at a Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 18 peavey is to loud for my home setting.

Keep the Peavy if you look at Ebay sales they are worth about the same $. If it was the Peavey + the Fender and $300 now---.
I have owned both amps and they are apples to oranges. The SS gain side is not bad at all but is more vintage voiced + the cleans are nice and it has a GREAT tube driven footswitchable adjustable effects loop.

ah yes, those are br00ts. Troy Van Leeuwen uses it, so I'm a big supporter.

Re: Peavey 5150 Combo for a Fender SuperSonic +300

I'd probably do it. Theres a 5150 2x12 local for $300 obo, which is somewhat tempting but no one wants a 90 pound huge footprint combo version of this particular amp apparently, I know I don't. Long and short is people can't even give them away so might as well use it as leverage on an amp with some resale value and good tone if you choose to keep it.
