Anyone try these out yet? I'm looking to buy a new amp but I'm on a budget and I cant find anything I like used. Would a 6505 be a good substitute for a JCM 900?

Re: Peavey 6505+ 112

Yes it would be a great replacement for the 900. Some people say they dont think the 6505 1x12 sounds as good as the 2x12 but so what? 2x12's always sound better, 4x12's sound even better. It is a good deal because its cheap. I have to warn you though because when I went down to the store to try one out it looked like a 2x12. It is a big 1x12 combo. In fact I doubt if there is much difference in the cabinet size from a 2x12. The sound is great however. The big cab helps the sound.

Re: Peavey 6505+ 112

incorrect

112 = carry in one hand, guitar in the other. One reason I bought it.

212 = rent forklift

6505+ 2x12
- Dimensions - Unpacked 30.125" W x 24.5" H x 12" D
# Weight Unpacked: 84.50 lb(38.329 kg)
# Weight Packed: 94.00 lb(42.638 kg)
# Width Packed: 15.25"(38.735 cm)
# Depth Packed: 33.5"(85.09 cm)
# Height Packed: 28"(71.12 cm)

6505+ 1x12
# Dimensions: 23.3" (567m) H x 25.5" (648mm) W x 11.2" (285mm) D
# Weight Unpacked: 61.29 lb(27.8 kg)
# Weight Packed: 68.34 lb(31 kg)
# Width Packed: 26"(66.04 cm)
# Depth Packed: 30"(76.2 cm)
# Height Packed: 16"(40.64 cm)

61 lbs could be the heaviest 1x12 commercially available. It is 18 lbs heavier than a Fender Hotrod Deluxe and 7" taller. The HRD is a medium size 1x12 combo. I think the 6505 1x12 qualifies as a big 1x12.

Re: Peavey 6505+ 112

It is a big 112, about the same size as a Peavey Bandit 112 I borrowed recently.

but I can carry the one I actually own and actually carry around with one hand and that beats your copy and paste. The 212 is MUCH bigger, and you aren't gonna carry it at all, not very far anyway, not even with both hands. It is much wider and much more unweildy. That extra 25 lbs or so makes a big diff. Actually, I don't trust the weight statistic you pasted, in real life the 112 feels half as heavy as the 212 to me.

btw
The dimensions you pasted are for "packed", do they look right? They make the 112 look bigger than the 212?

Re: Peavey 6505+ 112

i tried both the 1x12 and 2x12 out at a local store this past weds. they both sounded good i was surprised at the size of the 1x12. the 2x12 was a little wider but the 1x12 was taller. overall i thought it was a cool amp.

Re: Peavey 6505+ 112

i remember seeing the 1x12" in the store and saying to myself, damn that's the biggest 1x12" combo i've ever seen....

Re: Peavey 6505+ 112

You might also try the Blackstar HT series, around the same price range, sound great, designed by ex-Marshall engineers. I just picked up a HT-40 and ditched my Egnater Rebel 30.
