Peavey Decade Stomp

Securb

One of Jerry's Kids
I am actually interested in this. I had a Decade that I cranked and ran the output directly into my Fender stack. I remember enjoying glorious saturation until the day the Decade fried and smoked. This might be a great pedal for stacking overdrive.

I guess Josh Homme had some video recently talking about how great the Decade is? And now Peavey is selling this, and a new $300 "Decade Too" combo amp? Synergy in action. What happened to $30 at a pawnshop?

On one hand I think this is in the same bucket as the Rockman pedal - something with a retro cool factor that'll probably do ok in today's market because a lot of people like buying niche pedals. On the other hand, on a visceral level, I f'n hate it. I played through a lot of crappy Peavey combos the first time around and looking at the knobs gives me flashbacks.

Nostalgia is part of it, but I remember getting a killer sound gain staging with the Decade, and this seems like a safer, more controllable way to get it, especially for the studio. I hope people turn up their noses at this pedal so I can grab one on the cheap.

I saw they had a Bandit and a Rockmaster pedal as well.

Are these preamps? Or distortion pedals? If they're pedals to be used in a clean channel, not really interested, TBH. If they're preamps, I kinda want them all, LOL.

Some like the Rockmaster and Bandit seem to be preamps. But at $200 I think I am out.

That reminds me that I have a Rockmaster to sell. Too bad I didn't get around to it before this arrived.

Cool idea. But you can pick up real ones for half the price probably.

You'll be all over it when they put out a Mace pedal.

Transtube amps were highly underrated - and so would a Transtube pedal.

But you are paying for the ability to place it wherever you want in the signal chain. Sure I could go buy another Decade but using it the way I did in the 80s would result in another fried Decade. This you can use as a boost, overdrive, put it in the loop, go direct FOH or direct for recording. The applications are intriguing I hope I am not talking myself into buying one.

Josh Homme has never been a gear snob and has used some very cheap and utilitarian gear. With him it has always been about his playing and not his gear.

Hey Ids! Is it me or have we not seen you in these parts for a stretch?

I fell down the pedal building rabbit hole. It's both frustrating and rewarding. I think it has helped break the cycle of GAS because it is cheaper. Instead of pining for a piece of gear I can build it instead. Instead of seeing a broken blender as junk I now wonder what's inside it and what can I make from it?

Building pedals helped me realize what I really like. And it turns out, it isn't that complex.

I am really pondering this pedal. We have one song on the next album that has a 70s glam rock bridge/lead and I think this pedal would be awesome for that. $200 is just too rich for my blood right now. We don't record until the summer so hopefully by then the NAMM hype is gone and the prices come down.
