Peavey Delta Blues Tube help!

Hey everybody,

So I picked up a Peavey Delta Blues 115 a while back with some microphonic tubes. I was curious if anyone knew what tubes it came with from the factory; I don't want to go get it biased. After buying a set of JJ El84s to put in there, the JJs started glowing super red, which I guess is red plating? So my question is, is the amp biased too hot or too cold? And what tubes can I put in there that'll be close to the peavey's bias?

thanks!

Re: Peavey Delta Blues Tube help!

It should have had Sovtek EL84's in it. Get a matched quad of those and it should be fine. My Classic 50 never had a problem with JJ's, though the Delta may be pushing it for plate voltage as compared to the C50. Could also be a bad resistor in the bias circuit, or one of several other electrical faults. Try the Sovteks first, and if they still red plate you'll likely want a tech to have a look.

Yeah, I had a matched quad of Sovteks in it before. Amazon Prime had a matched quad of JJ El84's for like $45 bucks though.. sooooooo.... Now I just get to return them :D

I just ended up trading it for an Orange Dark Terror, so that problems solved.

Don't worry though, I disclosed the info about the red plating.

Re: Peavey Delta Blues Tube help!

Sucks that you ditched the amp, but if the Orange is better suited for what you want to play then it's a win-win.

Re: Peavey Delta Blues Tube help!

I'd have kept the Delta Blues and had it biased.....great sounding amp.
