I bought a Peavey HP Special EX, (The new Wolfgang after EVH left). And some of you all wanted to hear how I thought it held up to a Wolfgang. So here you go. First off i want to say that I have never played a standard wolfgang or an export wolfgang. I did however own 3 wolfgang special USA's and they are one of my favorite guitars ever. The hp special has a 1 11/16 nut as opposed to a wolfie having a 1 5/8. So right off the bat it feels different The neck contour is really flat... Not Wizard flat but **** close. It says asymetrical but I cant tell its so flat. The action and string tension is awesome like the wolfies. So easy to play that I will have to put 10s on it soon. The electronics are horrible although the pickups dont sound to bad. The neck sounds like A2. Real deap lows and mild output and the bridge sounds smooth and medium output. The middle single coil sounds only ok but does do the 2nd and 4th position notch straty sounds really good. Here is my biggest complaint. The licensed floyd is JUNK. One of the worst I have ever seen. One of the bolts that hold the string was crossthreaded and I could not get the string out due to the hex stripping out. So I had to get the visegrips out and the bolt snapped in half with only a mild turn. I have my old wolfgang Ping floyd which is a nice bridge but it didnt fit. The poles lined up fine but the baseplate was to big on one side and didnt fit into the recess. And the trem block was made out of this pop metal looking stuff. So what i did was use all my good pieces off my good bridge (saddles. bolts and brass block) and replaced all the junk parts on the other base plates pluss my D-Tuna and then I blocked the bridge to dive only. everything is doing better now after around 5-6 hours labor setting this thing up and I am still having trouble with the high E string going out of tune with a little dive. IMHO A wolfgang is 10 times the guitar this is.. I sure have a little buyers remorse. maybe after I put 10s on it it will stay in tune. and if it does ill replace the pups and pots and 5 way. But if I can't get it to stay in tune no use upgrading it. But all else considered, If this guitar will stay in tune it will be a nice guitar.........Richard
