Peavey Vypyr 15 watt demoed.

Not bad, sorta like a Line6 Spider 2 - same basic sounds. The amp models were impressive in name, can't remember them all but I really couldn't tell you if they were that close to the name they were modeling.

seems like just what i expected...

another lackluster modeler to take its place below vox and line 6.

Re: Peavey Vypyr 15 watt demoed.

The lineup model designation on these is a little confusing- I'd be interested in trying the one of the tube driven models as well.

Re: Peavey Vypyr 15 watt demoed.

These amps have been getting lots of interest around the message boards and I can't figure out why. I demo'd one at GC and thought it sounded very thin and fizzy. Way to much treble, no bass at all. Lots of lights and dials, but when I tried tweaking them things still sounded shrill and awful.

I think the tube models are of interest to most, like the Bogner Line6.

Re: Peavey Vypyr 15 watt demoed.

I just bought one of these after going back and fourth for about a week. This is the best sounding modelling amp I have played. The big test is playing it without the effects. It sounds great. The 15 watt actually sounds better than the 75 watt. I tried them side by side at the same settings and the 15 watt just sounded better(Fatter with more thump if you can believe it.). You do need to back off the treble to warm it up a bit,but I had to do that with my JSX too. It nails the Peavey JSX,XXX,Classic, and 6505. I had a JSX and a mini-colossal. Just assign the classic 30 sound to channel one and the two JSX dirty sounds to the other two and you have a JSX combo for $100.00 plus the other models+effects+direct recording. If anything Peavey may have made their other amps obsolete. I also had the spider III and this blows that amp out of the water. You really can't beat it.

Re: Peavey Vypyr 15 watt demoed.

Peavey's Re-Valver Mk3 modeling software has been getting great reviews in guitar and studio recording magazines. A reviewer in one mag said the amp in Re-Valver actually sound like the real thing! And he said whereas a lot of modeling software sounds OK clean, sounds good at high gain, but falls on its face in the semi-clean overdrive area, he said he wouldn't be afraid to take rE-Valver to a blues gig!

If the same algorithms are used in the Vypyr, it should be a great sounding amp. And I'd love a modeler that had 5150, XXX and JSX emulations besides just the ubiquitous Fender/Vox/Boogie/Marshall ones.

I have yet to actually hear and play a Vypyr. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

Re: Peavey Vypyr 15 watt demoed.

I tried the 15w and 75w at GC and I was amazed at how good it did sound. I own a 6505+ and I used to have a XXX and those models sounded very close in my opinion. It did well on the Krankenstein and Recto settings too. Classic setting was ok. These are the amps I have most experience with and the Vyper did well reproducing the tones. I'm replacing my Marshall MG15CDR with the Vyper15. Rock!

Re: Peavey Vypyr 15 watt demoed.

I think the Peavey sounds much better than the Vox . I think it's funny that you can get the Vypyr 15 for less than the VOX Satchurator Pedal. Plus you get a demo version of the revalver software too. Hopefully Peavey get's the recognition they deserve.I think Line 6 has there work cut out for them.
