Re: Peavey Windsor. Great Bang for Buck Tube Amps.

If you ask me, I am in love with it. But it is kind of a one trick amp. It does the blues/rock thing...but don't even think about metal.

Oh man, you gotta hear these clips Jeff sent me... next time I see him on AIM I'll get it from him again.

Re: Peavey Windsor. Great Bang for Buck Tube Amps.

Made in China?? I thought all PVs with the exception of the little practice amps were US made.. Anyhow, yeah Id love to add one.. I just fear it would not get much use as it is kinda one trick.. Why dO I even say that as Marshall 800s arent one trick... ?? I dunno.. I am guilty of liking more gain.. hee hee I find myself bursting into ACDC songs every time I plug into one.
Sad they havent caught on tho. But PV never gets the respect they deserve.. 3 or the 5 amps Ive owned have been PV. Its not because Im a diehard fan boy, its just that they have met my needs at a price I can afford. Never had any probs with them.

I would love to hear them. I have been looking for a way to get a good metal sound out of this amp, and maybe I could score a few pointers.

Do you have an overdrive Phil? Pick up an SD-1 or a TS7.

Re: Peavey Windsor. Great Bang for Buck Tube Amps.

You've got to give it up to Peavey for offering a line of very affordable and totally decent tube amps.

Re: Peavey Windsor. Great Bang for Buck Tube Amps.

I have a multi effects, but I guess it's not quite cutting it. I'll have to check it out I guess.

Yeah definitely grab an overdrive. I have a Peavey Classic 30 that does classic rock gain at the most. I picked up an SD1 last night for 50 bucks. It does wonders. The amp sounds pretty much the same, but it has a lot more gain. I am running the drive just above all the way off and the level cranked on the SD1. Tone knob is somewhere below the middle. Like I said, sounds like the same amp, just more gain and crunchier.

Re: Peavey Windsor. Great Bang for Buck Tube Amps.

It's about time. How much more expensive are they to make?

Well of course it depends on the components, as I'm sure you know.

A Peavey Windsor isn't going to have any hand-wired components. It's not going to have the caps or transformers a Bogner or Mojave or Bad Cat is going to have..

There does come a point of diminished returns, though.

Re: Peavey Windsor. Great Bang for Buck Tube Amps.

So far mine has been solid as a rock, no complaints there. I need to get a better cab for it though. I sold my old Peavey 412MS cabs which were excellent cabs when I got the deal on the half stack and I am just not down with the cab at all, I might swap out speakers but I have a feeling that whatever wood they used for the cab is not very good, haven't looked yet so maybe I am wrong

The amp itself sounds great, I rehearse with it 2 nights a week and it probably has a dozen or so gigs on it and I get a lot of props on the sound. Yeah fjamods does some pretty cool stuff, I have considered taking a ride up there visiting a buddy of mine and having them tweak it while I am there since it's really been very good, why not make it a budget super-amp?
