Pedal Comparison Needed: Plexitone vs. OCD

I'm thinking up my pedalboard, and I need an overdrive for both lower volume distortion and higher gain stuff then an Edana can handle (80s metal at most).

I've heard clips of both the OCD and Plexitone, and feel that either of them would be very good choices for what I need. What's really going to be a deciding factor is how dynamic the pedals are. From clips of the OCD, I know I can clean it up with my guitar volume control, but can I do the same thing with the Plexitone?

This is the major deciding factor between the two for me, and I'd like to be able to roll down my guitar's volume to clean up my sound rather then switching off a pedal, especially since if I play gigs at decent volumes, I'll have to clean up my sound like that. Thanks!

Bump. Anyone have a comparison of these two pedals?

I've got the Plexitone, which pretty much acts like an old Marshall or JCM800ish amp. Cleans up okay (with my amps) but will never be Fender like cleans. Since it's a pedal, is that really important though? I set my amp for a nice clean setting and use the PT for the distortion. But it cleans up....okay.

Hope this helps.

I will chime in for the OCD

I have played it thru Plexis and 800s, along with many other amps. It's a unique tone. I would call it the closest thing to a Marshall in a Box I have ever heard. Very dynamic, cleans up amazing, and can really push some volume. It has 2 modes, one is less gainy, more fat mids and round (kinda like a TS9 in that regard, otherwise lol... NOTHING like a TS9). The HP mode is amazing. Instant "Brown Sound" / Hot Rodded Plexi. Thru the 800s it's more of the same, only a little gainier - I use it thru a 2203, which aren't that gainy to begin with.

My only thing is, if you want 80s metal, I think the gain that this pedal adds could at times fall short. Thru my Shiva, I rather like the gain this thing adds, and I feel I can shred with it, but I am not a true metal player, so I am not the number 1 judge on here.

VERY DYNAMIC! i don't use it when I want saturation.

I use this mostly to save my Marshall's tranny, as I never have to crank my Marshall to get a gorgeous tone.

There you go brotha, LOL. With the return policies in place today, and if you could put out the up front cash, you might want to buy them both and return the one that comes in second. I've done that before and had no problems.

You know what my problem tends to be? I usually like them both so much I wind up keeping them both and get in big trouble with the ball and chain, LOL.
