Pedal for Boston Tone

I'm trying to get Boston Lead Tone out of my Tele. Is this possible? I'm looking for a pedal that will get me a good Boston sound and maybe have some other drive options. No price limit, has to be true bypass.

Suggestions?

Why true bypass? You'd probably be better off with a humbucker tone too I'd say.

Re: Pedal for Boston Tone

I have a guitar I'm looking at sticking a bucker in, but thats not till later.

Ever pedal I have played that isn't true bypass has sucked tone like a cheap hooker. I just like to go with the bypass.

Bostons lead tone could be done with many distortion pedals.. But i would think if you had a way to boost the midrange you may be able to get some of that Boston tone.... sure a humbucker would be more ideal.... but with your exsisting axe you may be able to do it... roll the tone knob back some on the tele to help thicken things up... play with the amps tone shapers..

Oddly enough Tom's late 60's LP for studio work is a finnish stripped LP Deluxe from 68 i think... The goldtop finnish was removed to raw wood... said to have a baseball bat fat neck! The neck pickup is P90 and the bridge is a Dimarzio Super Distortion.... his live Goldtop still has the finnish on it and is very close in seriel numbers to his original studio axe.. His stage goldtop LP has 2 Dimarzio's in it.....

Most boston albums have had the tracks so overdubbed it will be hard to copy that exact tone... All those guitar tracks would be naturaly flanging together... You may need to try a flanger set for very little noticable sweep.... maybe some slight delay as well but not much

as for the distortion pedal i can say the Diamond Fireburst is a winner! I can't say you will sound like Boston but it does have a great EQ, it is dead quiet, and it has a way of turning a small combo into a Marshall stack like thump and gain

I assume from your signature your using your Fender Pro Jr? I would try using a Tonebone Hot British Distortion or Option 5 Destination Overdrive. Both those pedals turn my Pro Jr. into a little hot rodded Marshall.

Thanks for the responses, I'm gonna check my local shop and try some of the pedals you guys mentioned. As for a flanger, whats a good starter one?

Re: Pedal for Boston Tone

in 1987 all i wanted was a Rockman and an LP Goldtop.... when i was 17 that First Boston album had me by the b alls.... a cousin of mine had in his car and we were driving around Toronto smoking up in an old wreck of a car listening to this album... i was hooked.... I was surprised to see you can still get the cheaper Rockman headphone amp thru some sources... maybe old stock?!?!?!?

FTR, the Rockman X100 was far superior to its successors.

I had a Guitar Ace for about 2 days. It had a loose wire or something, and I sent it back and got a Tubescreamer.

I would have bought an X100 if it had been available. They stopped making them long before I took up electric guitar. But I did get to test drive one at one point.
