Pedal for more gain with a JTM-45?

Re: Pedal for more gain with a JTM-45?

The Plexitone is more suited for Marshalls & sounded great thru a JTM45.

One of those & the Sovtek 12AX7LPS or a Shuguang 9th Generation 12AX7 in V1 should get you there pretty damned fast :bigok:

Maybe try a plug in SS rectifier tube too :D

Does your JTM have KTs or EL34s ?

5881's but im realy thinking about bringin it over and puting some KT66's in it.. what do you mean by V1?

that crunch box sounds pretty cool, found some clips on youtube and it was pretty cool but im realy curious about the plexitone

Here it is through a Customshop 50, which is a mix between something Fenderish and something else, it uses KT-66's tubes, and either ss rectifier or a tube.
Used my Kramer with a JB and two APS-1's in this clip....excuse the playing...I hate doing those without any music to play along with;)

And our Crush Zone...that also is a hotrodded Brit sounding thing....9v thingy instead, used a few other effects in this clip...sorry about that, it drives a huge 200 watt Hiwatt head here!!!
Also the Kramer!
Crush Zone clip.

One more Plexitone clip....I forgot what I played through here....been quitea while since I recorded this one....and all know that I record....too much ere;)
But seems to be through some rather agressive, so I guess it is the Kramer again..or my Wolfgang with a Demon?!?

One more through the CustomShop head, into a 4x12 V30 cab, defently the Kramer, using the tremolo and delay from a Quattro, and using the Plexitone as drive.

I am running the twin tube classic into my JCM 800 and it gets pretty brutal.

It's the closest thing to my Triaxis/290 rig so far.

V1 is the first preamp tube.

Re: Pedal for more gain with a JTM-45?

if you are into DIY stompboxes, I highly recommend Ed Guidry's BSIAB (Brown sound in a Box) I use one on my vinatge marshalls and it's lovely.

Re: Pedal for more gain with a JTM-45?

Now why did you say that about the LPS tube? Are they typically a higher gain tube?

I personally like the Sovtek 12AX7LPS over the Shuguang 9th Gen. because it's a little smoother, but can be gritty if ya' want it to....to me, it cleans up a little nicer too.

The Shuguang is super nice...and inexpensive...if you want a grittier gainier tone.

This is, of course, just my opinion with my amp.

The SD SFX-03 Twin Tube is phenominal for all around classic rock tones....but the CM Plexitone was full on Marshall, to me.

AND I've heard GREAT things about the Crunch Box, but have never tried one.

54'Strat,
From what you described, I think you really should give an MXR distortion+ a run. Nothing does palm mutes so defined, fat and balanced the only better thing is a Tube Screamer through a high gain, tube pre-amp with four or more ECC83s in it.

Re: Pedal for more gain with a JTM-45?

ill give my mxr a try.. think its a box logo and not a script one tho im not sure.. its so beat up i cant tell lol

and from what i heared from those clips i might just like the plexi tone... tho you had it setup rather trebly and classic rock'ish and its cool but im guessing qith bit more tweaking i could get the heavier tones i want from it.. the overall sound of it seems like something i could work with and very marshall'esk wich is a realm i want to stay in... with one exeption is didnt like how the sounds seemed a bit compressed but might be because of the recording? Now the other queation is.... where do i aquire one of those? and how much are they?

Re: Pedal for more gain with a JTM-45?

Want Marshall sound, want no compression....hehe good luck;)
It is compression when you crank stuff beyond clean:D
The CZ is alot more compressed, as it is way hotter than the Plexitone, which I sometimes gets complains over that it has too much headroom for some.....it is amp dependant, and what ever pickup that you use.

not saying i want no compression... just from those sound clips i hear something i dont like and i associated it to compression but it might not be directly it... could just be how you set it up like i said

on annother note annother petal just caught my attention today, the Tonebone Plexitube.. anyone know anything about this? i heared someone play with it and it sounded pretty nice! They had carl martin stuff but no plexitone available atm... seems like they where all sold...
