Pedal Hiss

I have an MXR Wylde OD and when it is turned on it hisses horribly through the amp. I have tried it through a couple of other amps and still get the hiss. Is there any mods I could do to make it less noisy? I have tried a Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor, but it has a tendency to eliminate all feedback and pinch harmonic sustain.

Any suggesstions?

How do you have it set? Most dirt boxes will get noisy if you've got all the controls dimed.

I'm setting everythig around the 2 oclock position roughly, so i guess around 6 or 7 ish,,

Not dimed out at all

Hmm... I'd be inclined to go try out a few more of them, to find out if yours is broken. If you have it backed off that much, it shouldn't be all that noisy.

Try using a battery if you are using a power adapter now

Does it hiss all the time or only when it's engaged? (I'll check mine when everyone wakes up and I can fire up the amp)

Mine does hiss a little engaged, but I've never heard an overdrive pedal more silent than it. (Battery)

Try using a "buffered" power supply like one of the Boss adapters.

It only hisses when engaged, I have tried batteries and a Dunlop power brick.

Any chance of getting your hands on another one to check against your's? Might be something wrong with it?

I wonder if it could be a funky switch? Mine went bad fairly quickly and I had it replaced,remember John?

I tried another one and it hisses, but not quite as bad as mine, but still enough to annoy me while playing.

Someone told me my tubes in my amp may be going "microphonic", which I have no clue as to what that means. I am playing through a Crate Blue Voodoo 60 if that helps.

I tried another one and it hisses, but not quite as bad as mine, but still enough to annoy me while playing.

Does your amp hiss alot w/o any pedal(s) connected to the input of your amp? Microphonics normally is a high pitched,squeeling sound(Like a microphone feeding back)..

With no pedals it has no hiss, even with pedals hooked up but not on it doesn't hiss. I have a Small Stone Phase, Dunlop Rotovibe that do not hiss when turned on and a Morley wah that has just a little hiss, but the Wylde is way too much.

I guess it's not microphonic because the only time I get the high pitch squeel is if I stand directly in front of the speaker.

I don't ge much hiss from my Boss SD-1. I like Boss pedals better than MXR. The Wylde OD that Zakk uses is modified because I think he also like the Boss better.

It was a MXR ZW44, a few years back the switch went screwy and you replaced it for me. How could you ever forget, it was such a special moment?

Don't forget cables... I switched out from ProCo to Monster... it was worth it...
