Pedal Impedance Matching Issue!?!?

I've been playing with my new HBE Germanium treble booster thingermabob. Love it. Really crunches my amp and it's 3Q switch is excellent for different volume levels... however, I stacked my OXfuzz Germanium with it. Sounds great except if I have my chorus on?!?! Chorus is after of course and I run the Fuzz into the TB, then a wilson haze vibe, old mxr envelope filter, boss bf-2 and finally hardwire stereo chorus. I'm pretty sure there is an impedance issue with the chorus on, or maybe the oldschool fuzzes stacked don't like the digital mumbo jumbo? It's weird to me as either the fuzz or treble booster sound fine by themselves with the chorus on, but as soon as I hit both with the chorus it is horribly thin and shrill... with chorus off, thick chunky gooey goodness again.

Sorry if confusing, kids are playing in a box and I'm trying to multitask lol.

Re: Pedal Impedance Matching Issue!?!?

Foxrox wah buffer is what I'd try. Build it into a small box.

I'm a little puzzled though because you're running into non-true bypass effects down the chain. Maybe the MXR??? Just a guess.

Re: Pedal Impedance Matching Issue!?!?

I'm assuming that when both the tb and fuzz are on, the impedance is funky compared to the chorus when on. Mxr has no buffer, but may load the signal a bit. I'll take stuff out and experiment. Worse case I do have an mxr clone that's true bypass, but I like the mxr a little more... But that's a different thread.

Re: Pedal Impedance Matching Issue!?!?

Old school style units like transistor based fuzzes and boosters don't like a lot of more modern boxes...

A fuzz into a treble booster has a LOT of high end contect, that then into the chorus is causing the issue and more than likely there is no fix...

The Foxrox buffer is a really specialized unit for fuzz and wah matching, it might help but your best bet is likely don't use all 3 together or get a different chorus.

Re: Pedal Impedance Matching Issue!?!?

^I'm wondering if what is going on is that with the chorus bypassed the signal is loaded and more dull than 'normal' being I'm running 2 amps... Kind of like running a 'Y' cable. Then I hit the pedal on and all the high end returns? Lol... It's for sure a nasty sound lol. I just tried it with an old analog dod chorus and it was pretty much the same except the bypassed chorus sound was even worse.

boss bf-2

That's a buffered pedal. Your fuzz units should not see the impedance of the Hardwire - rather the Boss and/or MXR units (Depending on its bypass). That is if I'm understanding your chain correctly.

Re: Pedal Impedance Matching Issue!?!?

Yeah, I thought the same, but the same thing happens regardless if the bf-2 and mxr are removed. Maybe the chorus effect just sounds bad with the stacked dirt. Strangly, the flanger sounds good with then lol.

Re: Pedal Impedance Matching Issue!?!?

Maybe a BUFFER pedal (not a buffered effect pedal) just after the two germanium ones can do the trick.
