pedal in the amp

Re: pedal in the amp

Problem is that you have only one choice for overdrive. With an external pedal, you can plug in anything you want.

Now, if someone is completely committed t that one sound, then go for it.

One of these days, I'd like to put a tube screamer circuit directly into one of my guitars....

Re: pedal in the amp

The tube screamer is an industry standard if there ever is one. For that pedal, it's not a bad idea. I can't say the same for many other non-boutique pedals however...

Here is a thought: Build an amp that sounds great as is....

I know - that's crazy talk. Just looks gimmicky to me. What do I do with my pedal if I get that? Do I get a refund?

Who says the amp doesn't already sound good...I have amps that sound good, several in fact and I use pedals...just like SRV, Jimi, Gilmour, Page, Clapton, Beck, Warren Haynes, Marc Ford...the list goes on.

I can't see myself buying one of those amps but $299 street price for a 15 watt tube amp with a built in TS Overdrive and a built in 6db solo boost...thats a good deal in a day and age where there are fools out there selling TS808 clones for $300+

Re: pedal in the amp

So, you need a footswitch to activate the built in pedal? Eh... okay...

Maybe they don't trust their own amps and had to come up with some gimmick.

Re: pedal in the amp

so they took a pedal that you used to have to plug into your amp and stomp on it and replaced it with a circuit board inside the amp...and a footswitch you have to plug into the amp and stomp on it.

LOL.

The price is a great selling point though.

Re: pedal in the amp

Some Music Man amps from back in the day has circuits like that in their preamps...kinda like plugging a TS into a Twin. Then you hit that with the OD of your choice for variation.

The early models had the switchable distortion. It was a very nice sound as well, much smoother then a Tube Screamer.
