Pedal Nonsense

So I've been thinking lately that I am not wanting as dry of a tone anymore. So I'd like to pick up a flanger and possibly a delay.

Jim (my Shop's owner) has a DM-2 that I really like....it's idiot proof and that's what I need.

For a good flanger....I'm in the dark. I'm not looking for anything real dramatic or anything just a bit of wetness and texture.

I'm probably going to hit some pawn shops this weekend. It will be a while before I get these I just want to know what you guys like.

Re: Pedal Nonsense

i know there are a ton of guys who rave about the choralflange but ~$300 is a bit steep for a flanger even for me (and i have no restraint when buying stuff lol). i have no complaints with my boss bf-2 flanger, it works just fine for me!

Re: Pedal Nonsense

Bah the Choralflange..basicly a TC-Chorus/Flanger, if you want a trippy cool one get the Foxrox TZF, it is expensive for sure, then there is the various others, get and Ibanez and get someone to mod it, because it can become rather wild too with a few things changed.

Re: Pedal Nonsense

Flanger? What for? Like, doing EVH type stuff?
I may have a flanger at home you can have. I will check and get back to ya.

Re: Pedal Nonsense

TO...don't knock the flanger man...they are great for intros (and other stuff)!!

Ain't knocking it; just doesn't have much use in my style of music.

I've always thought he used a phaser...in any case its just something to give me a bit of texture especially for those soaring solos I wish I could do! :)

I have both I think. I will see what I have at home and get back to you.
They're just collecting dust at my place.

Re: Pedal Nonsense

Also look for an MXR Flanger. One of my favs. If I didn't want to keep my flanger and delay, I'd sell them but they're old and they work. BOSS DD-2 and BOSS BF-2B (Bass version).

Re: Pedal Nonsense

Check out the Boss HF-2 Hi-Band Flanger. It's subtle and smooth. I have two, one made in Japan and one Taiwan and I can tell you, they both sound the same. You can find them on e-bay for under $50.

reverb usually wets my tone enough to keep it tasty!

Re: Pedal Nonsense

I have used and like VooDoo Labs Analog chorus-about 165 USD or so...Quite transparent and you can really dial it down to put just a touch of color to your tone. Worked nicely with my Tele-it's worth a look.

Well I leave my reverb up a bit but I want delay that I can click on and off for legato passages.

Re: Pedal Nonsense

Anyone know where I maybe could get some schematics to have someone build a flanger? I would say delay but I bet the parts sourcing would be a pain.

I looked out our resident pedal manufacturer's website (Pro Tone) but he didn't offer the pedals. Any other units I should be looking into?

Re: Pedal Nonsense

Check out diystompboxes.com. There's loads of stuff there. Flangers aren't easy. I haven't even attempted to make one but they are tricky. There's loads of good info on how they work there too.
