Pedal Projects! Building a couple of Pedal Boards. How...

I am your doctor of love!
I am finally building my pedal boards. I'm looking for simple suggestions for the actual board construction. I have seen a few about. I would rather build simply than a lot of complicated cutting.

For my Acoustic board I'm thinking maybe two tiers, low front and high back. I will want a power supply for this - currently using a one spot and a power strip. I like that.

For my Pro Jr. Board, Ineed only three or four pedals, but I'd like the option of adding this or that on a whim, so a "guest spot ot two might be in order...

So masters of board design, let's get this done!

Two tiers for an acoustic board? Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking it, I just can't understand it. When I used to play acoustic a lot more I bought one of those PreSonus AcoustiQ preamps and that was it. It did everything I needed it to do and was a relatively small extra deal to carry around. I recommend them if you're just looking to shape your acoustic sound. Now if you're one of the more eccentric acoustic players (Tim Reynolds comes to mind) and play with delays and modulation effects, it makes more sense. Not something I'd do, but it makes more sense.

(Bob...I usually use 3/4" plywood and one of my boards is actually 3/4" birch plywood..In the past,I've taken measurements and let either Home Depot or Lowes cut the boards for me...I normally like using velcro to hold the pedals to the board..I still live pretty local to you if you needed some help/advice etc...Soon I'm actually going to be playing with the guys in "The Doors Of Perception" band(Tampa)...They are not only doing Doors, but will be doing The Who,Stones, floyd, and other Classic Rock stuff...When I'm not doing the non- Doors part of it,I will be running sound..I'm excited..The lead singer(Doug)and I go back to the late 80s when we were in a band together..

I always look for pieces from computer desks, shelves, cabinets, or anything that can be used for pedalboards sitting next to dumpsters.

Right now, I'm building a new board from a black laminated particle board plank that was a stereo shelf. I just need to take it to the local metal shop and have them cut 4 angled pieces of aluminum channel moulding. I saved some chrome handles from a file cabinet drawer to use as side handles. I've done this before, and end up with professional looking boards that end up being about $40 total.

If anyone's interested, I'm selling a Signal Flex 5 output power supply (similar to Voodoo, T Rex, Power Brick etc) $35 shipped.

I used an old bookshelf that I took apart intending for firewood. It worked until I stomped a little too hard. Then I got a pedal train pro. If you're a lighter foot than I am (and you probably are), then old bookshelf will work perfectly.

Actually, the computer desk I'm at would be a great source of that board, as my wife hates it.

What do you guys who use spacers to raise stuff use for the spacers? Glue or nails or screws?

I used an Ikea Gorm shelf for my pedal board. It was like 3 or 4 bucks.

I got some plastic Ikea shelf brackets which I sawed off for the rear legs (for height and a slight slope towards me when playing). Screwed into the Gorm shelf. Those were either 2 or 5 bucks.

And then I spray painted it black.

Total cost = less than $20. It's tough and durable.

I just bought some wood at Lowes. Found some excellent stuff to use as spacers.

The spacer I have which came from an LA Sound Design interface is just void free plywood. Attached with dual lock.

I'll be using screws/gflue. Git it laid out. I'll taking pics, posting a thread, blah blah blah. Stay tuned!
