pedal question

alrite guys, here it is. Today when i was playing i realized i really dont use any of my pedals at all. I dont really have a need for the compressor, i like it, but i dont use it enough to really justify having it. The blues driver sounds so similar to my amps gain channel that my brother cant tell a difference, and i can barely. (props to boss, its one heck of a pedal). So im kinda thinking i dont need these pedals, they are just sitting around, and i dont really use them. I could probably sell them, and use the money to get my wah modded (bypass, LED, and maybe some cool mod) and still have enough for a phaser, or chorus, or some other pedal id use a bit more.

what are you opinions on this? will i regret this down the road? are pedals worth keeping if they are collecting dust? thanks

Re: pedal question

First of all...never listen to your brother!

Seriously, if you don't use them sell them...the golden age of pedals is dawning and things are only going to get better. More expensive, fo' sure, but there are new boutique pedals coming out all the time that are as good or better than the classics. You can always find another pedal that will do what those do (perhaps better).

YMMV, IMHO, etc., etc.

Re: pedal question

falstaff, i trust my brother ear, he is bluntly honest.

i can detect a very very slight difference, but i am happy with either tone. they are so similar, i could use either. i actaully prefer the amps distortion.

what do u mean by the "golden age" of pedals is dawning?

i also though it could be cool to invest in some rackmount stuff, like a rack eq, or tuner? not that im gonna build a rack, but if they are good enough, i could just stack them on top of my amp, or buy one of those cheap studio racks for like 20 bucks...whatcha think about that?

Re: pedal question

IMO, the less effects the better. If you like the sound of your amps OD, then I say jettison the ones you don't use. If your amp is not a permenant fixture in your rig, then you might want to hang on to them.

The reason I bought my Marshall is that I wanted to get as close to Guitar -> Cord -> Amp as I could. I can do that with the OD on my amp, just not the clean. A chorus or delay pedal is always cool to have, and can benefit any rig. Same with a graphic eq, a boss tuner, flanger, ect.

Just my $.02

Re: pedal question

my amp is gonna be permanent as long as it lasts, or untill i buy some really super cool amp, and even than i prbly will keep it around. when/if i do sell it, it will be many many years down the road, and i will replace it with an amp that has distortion, cleans, and reverb that are equivilent and better than my amp.

what are some cool/unique pedals that can "benifit" any rig that dont break thte bank, yet are pretty unique. i really like that sort of stuff, i dont like sounding like everyone else. right now i have a wah, which im gonna get mod'd for bypass, and maybe let analogman do his thing on it...anyways, what are some cool pedals or rack units i could get that woould benifit any rig, that would hold valie, that wont break the bank, and that sound good.....

Re: pedal question

Some things I think that are cool and useful are the following:

H2O - Chorus...that gets some good reviews
SD Booster pedal or similar...great for a transparent lead boost. Its like a 3rd channel for your amp.
Graphic eq pedal...great for shaping sound and adding mids, bass, ect as needed.
Delay pedal - great for thickening up your tone, adding depth.

That's what I come up with right of the top of my head since you don't want any OD/Distortion pedals.

I have a bunch of pedal's that I never use. But I keep them around any
way. You never know?? One may come in handy one day? Someone
gave me a old MXR auto Wah, I wasn't gonna take it ( thihking what
would I ever do with it ?) A little while later my band was working
on a tune that was kinda funky. Everybody agreed it was a good
tune but it was missing somthing?? I looked down in my bag and
there was that MXR. I pluged it in and BAM !! that was the missing
Ingredieant !! KEEP EM'

Bob -

I think for the $$ it's hard to beat the Boss 7 band eq. I have one that I'll be using regularly as soon as I get my amp modded and get the damn LED light to work.

Interetingly, I have a DOD 7 band eq laying around here somewhere that I don't even use. I wanted the Boss to match all my other pedals. It's missing one slider knob, but the slider works....you just have to use a pick or something thin to move it.

I'll send it to you if you want to give a spin.
