i use mine at the very start. While i almost NEVER use it as a mute, it works fine in that capacity even at the front

I have a Boss TU-2 as the first pedal because I read on this board somewhere the buffer is useful as a signal driver and it is best to re-enforce your signal before it becomes degraded. Then again..... I only tun three pedals total in front of the amp most of the time including the tuner.
