Pedals into a SS Amp?

Just a random thought, but I'm looking to put together a small practice rig. I can't use my bassman due to the volume levels required to make it sound good. I really need a nice quiet mostly clean amp, but wondered how do pedals do going into a SS amp.
I know there are no tubes to push with a TS clone, but would I at least get some of the pedal's flavor? I would imagine such things like delay, and chorus would be minimally effected by the SS architecture.
Is this the case? What are your experiences using pedals into an SS Combo?

Re: Pedals into a SS Amp?

I've got a little Marshall Lead 12 1X10 combo from the 80s that sounds great for modded Marshall tones (driving my Bogner 4X12 Uberkab) with a TS9 out front. But it was made for OD Marshall tones. I think that the trick would be making a clean SS amp sounded good for crunchy tones. For that, the only pedal I've ever tried that really nailed it was the Carl Martin Plexitone. When I got my PT, I ran home to try it out on my lunch hour and just plugged it straight into my 300 watt Rocktron Velocity SS power amp. It sounded awesome. Only pedal I've ever tried that made that nice of crunch through a clean SS amp.

Wow, lots of different SS amps out there, some good, some not so good. I had a Randall 1-12 combo that sounded really good, had a good gain channel too. One of the biggest problems I have with little amps is little speakers. 6" and 8" speakers just sound small and boxy.

I ran pedals into a Fender solid state amp, and it was fine.

Pro tip: stick with the amp's clean channel.

This is what I'm thinking exactly. Get myself a Frontman 25 or something similar, use the clean channel exclusively. Maybe throw a tiny bit of OD, or Delay and that's about it.
I'm just not feeling it playing my tele unamplified.

i use a 68 Bassman too and was facing a similar problem when i moved into my apartment.

i got the 5 watt Marshall tube combo...perfect solution. Responds like a tube amp cuz it is one. Headphone jack and everything...couldn't be happier.

Just something I'd recommend looking at.

flextone III combo is pretty awesome. Takes pedals great, and can direct record very well. Sounds good at low volumes, and had built in effects.
