Pedals like the Bogner Uberschall and Ecstasy...

After seeing Dominus' thread, I didn't realize that Bogner made pedals. What's the deal with these? Being branded Bogner, I figure they have to sound decent, but are they based on their respective amps? Are they intended to be run into a clean tube amp (say Fender)? How close do they approximate the amps in question?

I've seen people's "Dual Rectifier in a box" pedals and I think to myself, there's no way it can sound like my Mesa... Are these Bogner (and similar brands) pedals legit or just a brand extension so that they can create more revenue?

Re: Pedals like the Bogner Uberschall and Ecstasy...

They're well engineered and well built pedals that really do a good job emulating the amps that share their names.

Expensive? Yeah, but they sound more amp-like than most high gain pedals. They seem to be more like a whole preamp section, meaning they'll mud out if you stack them on top of amp gain. I think they sound best plugged into a big fat clean tube amp.

From what many owners have said, they think the red highgain one is the wisest choice, just because it can cover what the blue one does and more.

Want.

Very very amp like. I have the Bogner Blue pedal.

Re: Pedals like the Bogner Uberschall and Ecstasy...

I've played through the Überschall and Ecstasy Red at GC. They sound awesome through whatever little combo they had them plugged into. I can't remember now. Plays just like the amp would. My band's most recent CD was recorded with an Überschall head, and the pedal was able to duplicate it very well. Great pedals IMO.

Check out the AMT _1 series then, you can usually get them for $100 or so used. Engl (E1), Mesa Boogie Rectifier (R1), Soldano (S1), Bogner (B1), Peavey 5150 (P1), etc.

do those work like regular pedals though ? I thought they were not made for using in front of a tube amp but as pre amps or something

They have the Drive series pedals that are in the same price range, those are meant to go in front of an amp. (If your Amp has an Effects loop, I recommend the _1 series.) They also have the _2 series which has an extra output to use into the front of an amp, but those are a little more expensive.

Re: Pedals like the Bogner Uberschall and Ecstasy...

I've owned all 3 of them, and ended up keeping (to my surprise) the blue. I love high gain sounds so i figured the red would be the obvious choice but i really preferred the blue. The red sounded great but i have a ton of high gain pedals and the red didn't strike me as that unique compared to the others i have.

The blue had about 3 really cool sounds in it. One was a low gain thickening of my clean sound. It didn't sound like it was a dirty tone, just sounded like my clean tone had more balls. the next was a cranked 60/70s marshall tone. great for classic rock. and finally on the blue channel with the boost engaged it was a really unique clear-yet-saturated sound that made me feel like i was somewhere between 80s AOR ripping (steve lukather/neal schon) and passion and warfare vai tones. never really had a pedal that could do that, so i sold the red.

the uberschall i didn't care for as much. The red had more gain and more tonal control, and IMO just sounded better than the Uberschall.

Here's a demo I did for the Ecstasy Red:

Dude. Just create a new thread. State you have a demo of a pedal, and we'll check it out and comment in a single, cohesive thread.

Re: Pedals like the Bogner Uberschall and Ecstasy...

I have the Uberschall Black, and to be honest, I'm not that crazy about it. It's almost, too much gain. I wonder if it's because I'm playing it through a Bogner amp. Perhaps it's supposed to make a non-Bogner sound like a Bogner. :dunno:

I get sweeter sounds from my Duncan Twin Tube Classic. (Sorry. Don't mean to sound like a fanboy.)

It is the highest gain of the three... I wonder if the Red or Blue would be more up your alley?

Re: Pedals like the Bogner Uberschall and Ecstasy...

Most say the uber is really not that high in gain, the red has more

Re: Pedals like the Bogner Uberschall and Ecstasy...

The Bogner XTC Blue and Red are my favorite dirt pedals along with my Bogner Wessex and Burnley. I do own Bogner amps and my main amp is my 20th Anniversary Shiva with EL34s. I still find plenty of uses for these pedals with the Bogner and also with my other amps.

My favorite pedals to date. I ended up selling a bunch of other pedals after buying these cause they are that good. Amazing feel, great punch and growl, 3 dimensional huge tones!

I love having all 4 pedals because each is very different.
The Blue and Red are very different. The Blue is much more open, much lower gain and does the Plexi thing like no other. The Red feels and sounds much different. More bounce, sag or squish. A beautiful sound and feel. More gain than anyone would need except maybe a beginner guitarist since a lot of people new to guitar playing think they need a ton of gain. The Red will go as heavy as I need, ever.

The Wessex and Burnley also sound massive.
The Bogner pedals do an amazing job of feeling and sounding like a great Bogner amp! However, I prefer them through a good tube amp.

I ordered the New Orange Amplification amp in a box and I can't wait till it arrives. It is a great time to be a guitarist with so many great tube amp companies making these killer amp in a box pedals.
