Pedals to make your clean sound better?

Re: Pedals to make your clean sound better?

One of the best mods I've discovered for an amp is to change the speakers. It's about the same tonal impact as changing pickups on a guitar. My '59 Bassman RI was pretty decent, but I loaded her up with new speakers and the clean tone is ridiculous now! I played my first gig with it since the change just last Friday and I couldn't believe the clean tone coming out of it.

So yeah, speakers. A good speaker can start around $100. That's half of what some boutique pedals go for.

Have you actually told us what you don't like about the clean sound you have at the moment ?

Definitely. Here it is:

the more stuff in your chain, the more stuff you need to make your clean sound good.
For me, the best clean sound is gained by choosing your guitar and amp carefully.

Gotta love that Talent Pedal.

But yeah, if you amp is clean, what more do you want. If you are trying to clean up a "dirty" amp maybe try an Eq pedal.?
Speaker selection is the Easiest/Best way to mod the tone of your amp.
Other than that, learn to use your pick attack, and your guitar volume knob.
best

I like the clean I have on my Blackstar. I was asking the question just to see if and what pedals were out there for the application of getting a better clean. For me I use a lil dirt to make the clean shimmer and chime and make the notes sustain a lil longer and give more body or Ill use a lil verb depending on the room and size of the band and the type of music.

IMO, the ONLY thing that makes clean tones sound better are FEWER pedals and MORE headroom. i hate compressors.

i use rotaries, univibes, tremolos, delay, reverb, etc etc, but i'm referring to clean tone by itself.

While this may sound like a shameless plug, it´s one of the reasons I love my Mesa V-twin.

The clean channel adds lots of sparkle and chime as well as some depth to the otherwise somewhat bland "typical Marshall" clean that the low input of my 2204 gives me, they get a very "fenderish" character all of a sudden while still sounding like a Marshall at heart.

Kind of like Zakk Wylde wearing a 3-piece designer suit. Looks clean and corporate at first glance, then you see the beard and the hair and realize something is very wrong here. That´s the point where the dirty channel usually comes into play. :D
