Peg Winder

Re: Peg Winder

Those string winders allow me to restring my Strats in under 10min flat. Never had a malfunction or fitting issues.
Trick to not have it bang against the adjacent tuners is to position the tuners next to the string you're winding vertical so that you have more space to wind.

Re: Peg Winder

I use a Planet Waves one with the string clipper built in. It doesn't seem to have any of the problems that the cheaper ones have.
But those aren't really problems for me. I just used my hands for years.

I have the same one with the clipper and the string stretcher built into the handle. I love it when I can find the damned thing. In most cases, it is quicker doing it by hand than searching out the winder.

I've got the same one, with the headstand too. I like how it's got two different sized slots, so it fits all my tuning pegs.

I finally put a little plastic container together with all my strings, winder, headstand, Dunlop 65 Guitar maintenance kit, mini screwdrivers, tuner and rags. Makes it easy to do a string change on a whim.

Re: Peg Winder

I like my locking tuners. Not enough winding involved to bother with a winder.

While I love my locking tuners, the easiest is the Steinberger with double ball strings. Drop the string in, and in 1/2 a turn, it is in tune (40:1 ratio).

Re: Peg Winder

This costs a bit more (~$15) but is well made, non slip surface and small enough to fit between and not bump fender tuners. They also make a drill/driver bit version.

Re: Peg Winder

VAn Noord pretty much covered what I was going to say.. I use the winder to get real close. I turn the adjacent pegs up and down to allow room for the winder to spin freely. Then finish the last tiny bit by hand.
