Re: Pensa

I live in NY and I'm in Rudy's regularly looking at those guitars. Beautiful, but overpriced because he makes them in small quantities. If you ever meet Rudy Pensa, he's a hell of a nice guy, but most of his guitars look like they're made from Warmoth parts. His low end strats go for $2,000, and the MK1 Mark Knopfler model I thing is $3400-$4200.

The small quantities and high demand allow him to keep the price up. BUT, you are guaranteed a fine instrument

Thank you my friend, you've just put the pin straight into my baloon!

Nah, seriously, I can see they're overpriced and not the best; they're just droolsome guitars that no one - apart from a wealthy supremo like MK! - would ever buy. Compare that to what Paul Reed Smith can offer for $3400-$4200... I rest my case.

Still, lovely, beautiful guitars.

Re: Pensa

I always liked Reb Beach's Koa bodied, rosewood necked Pensa Suhr. Recently Pensa had a used one in his shop and on the web site- it looked a little worn, I figured I could get it for maybe $1800. After e-mailing them, they wanted $7200!!!!!

Pensa even has a club for Pensa owners. They travel to a part of Italy for a convention to hang out, play, and enjoy wine- basically an exclusive club for anyone that has the money for a Pensa and travel to Italy.

Again, I met Rudy Pensa, very down to earth and nice guy. I could see his guitars going for $2400, like Tom Anderson prices. But it's sad to go into his store and not be able to justify the price on his guitars. Then again, if I had to sell all my guitars and just have one, it would be a Pensa.

Re: Pensa

Ever since I saw the video for Brothers in Arms the other day I've wanted that one with the 'bucker in the bridge.

They are beautiful guitars but there is NO new bold neck guitar thats worth more than $2500...period. To be honest 2k is pushing it!
Prices are £2525 - £3600 ($4,402 - $6,276 USD). Which is a bit much - probably the interest on one of Knopfler's bank accounts for 0.001 seconds!

I suppose if you compare that to what PRS can offer at that price... still, if they don't GAS you up then something's wrong!

I saw the great man play these guitars live years ago, when he was touring with the Notting Hillbillies - they look stunning in the flesh and have an AWESOME tone!

Thought he played a Les Paul on that?
